The PERFECT office chair.

I want to buy an uber-ergonomic chair that reduces bodily stress to essentially nothing.

I’m picturing something that basically suspends me in a reclined position, has full back and neck support and allows me to have my ergonomic keyboard with my arms in a fully natural position, allowing freedom to type with as little strain as possible.

I spend hours daily at my computer and it’s about time I start investing in my body… I’m willing to pay a few thousand dollars if necessary.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Are you sure that you really want to be held motionless like that? As an alternative, consider a form of seating that would improve your posture, such as a balance ball or saddle-seat chair.

Thanks, Hunter Hawk… I am open to suggestions. I would like to cut down on visits to the chiropractor.

The Hermann Miller Aeron Chair has always been highly regarded as THE chair to buy if you care about comfort.

That’s what I was going to say. You’ll recognize it from how often it shows up in movies because of its distinctive look. We bought lower-end Herman Miller conference chairs at work as they were the most comfortable of a range we tested. If your job doesn’t offer it, you could use some of the $1000s to have an ergonomic expert come in and analyze your office for the correct settings and measurements for your workspace components.

Spiffy though the Aeron chairs may look (and feel–I’ll grant you that for office chairs they’re really good), you’re still held in a normal seating position, which isn’t going to do your pelvic area and psoas muscles any favors.

noblebaron, you might also want to investigate the possibility of getting a standing desk.

I’m a little confused on how you’ll be able to type and look at the screen from a reclining position??

Ceiling. LCD monitor. Duct tape.

Reclining workstation.

Bah, the Aeron chairs are overrated. When Radio Shack built their new campus, they put Aeron chairs in every cubicle (I blame the low stock price on them spending $2.3 million on ugly, uncomfortable chairs.) I hated them.

I use the Aeron. I would say it’s somewhat better than other office chairs I’ve experienced but not worlds better. The best feature is the seat and back are a sort of fine mesh that breathes. So your seat and back don’t get moist like they might if sitting in a padded chair in a warm environment all day long.

Hey, thanks a lot for your suggestions everybody. When I actually end up buying the chair, I’ll let you know which one.

I have an Aeron chair at home that I love.

Though I must admit that the reclining workstation looks really tempting, for mw it would be too specialized. I couldn’t use it in conjunction with a normal desk. So to do anything NOT through my computer, I’d have to get out of it and move to a normal desk and chair.
