911 calls.
Because if it doesnt- then the peeve is just being silly.
Then you are exempt.
I’d love to take the steps at the VA but I’d not like falling down them. Been having dizzyness. I can “hear” some of the people saying in whispers or to themselves that for me I SHOULD be taking the steps…yeah. I have enough problems just walking in a straight line!
A result of constant knee jerk reactions to items rolling across your newsfeed, no doubt. Very common these days.
That was for you, Thelma!
Yes, exactly.
At work I often have to refer to customers’ addresses, phone numbers, and SS numbers in their files. This info, as it appears onscreen, is microscopic, probably about a 5 font (and cannot be enlarged/zoomed in on). Quite a challenge for my old eyes.
Here’s my peeve, though. This data is entered by our secretaries, one of whom can’t be bothered to enter hyphens. Too much extra work, I suppose.
So her entry for a phone number looks something like this:
8493586138
Actually, no. On preview the above entry is much easier to read. Imagine it a size or two smaller and you’ll know why I often contemplate hyphenating her kneecaps.
mmm
DAMN…they’re!
Hehe.
Doesnt? I suggest you abandon all spelling/grammar conventions and just go on your merry, solitary way.
New pet peeve: people who shrug off spelling/grammar errors, on the basis that they don’t result in poor communication. When I have to stop and figure out what someone’s trying to say because he used the wrong word, that’s poor communication.
Most the time I dont use the apostropheeeees. Pain is the ass. :dubious:I do it when it doesnt matter. If it were more of a serious venue, I would use them. Otherwise, are you so good that you require all of us to be perfect in grammar etc?
Not like you can figure out what I am trying to say.
I always have problems with it its and it’s as it is because of the people online bitching about it. I do use the stupid apostrophe for that but then again…when should I?:eek:
Dont try to explain because I’ve heard it too many times to get less confused…well damn I used an apostrophe up there! Gotta catch myself more often!!:D:D

you cant figure out what simple words are such as cant, wont, dont?? You should get some help :p:p:p
If I had a word with dual meaning I’d be using the ’ for sure so there would be no mistaken what I wanted to say. Bad enough I have trouble having people understand what I saying since I dont even know what I’m saying…see, need the ’ in that contraction!
No, you wouldn’t. Doing anything well takes practice, diligence, mindfulness, care. What I’ve seen from the “if it were really important” mindset - in any area of endeavor - is that 1) pretty much nothing ever qualifies as important enough for them to do something properly, in their judgment and 2) when called upon they fail horribly and say “well, do you know how long since I’ve had to do that?”
Lazy and delusional is no way to go through life.
We all should get rid of useless petty grammar nazi conventions that impair, not assist communication.
No one misunderstands “doesnt”.
You had understanding issues with “doesnt”? :dubious:
And of course those are not "errors’. We have no recognized authority of American Grammar and Spelling. This is not France.
I never said I did; there are degrees of misunderstanding. Why not try to avoid it altogether?
I do. When you find a post of mine that my shortcuts make it actually hard to understand, (not a typo) please feel free to PM me. Until then, or until American gets a National Board Of American English, I choose to simplify.
And then there is the issue of looking like an uncaring, careless person when not following the conventions, both in language and in behavior.
France has an American Grammar and Spelling authority? Who’d a thunk it?
Anyway, every time I read “alum” in a headline, I wonder how potassium aluminum sulfate could do or say anything. It really wouldn’t take much ink and space to finish the word with -nus or -na, and it would look much more educated.
