The Player (possible spoilers)

Anyone else seen this film by Altman? I thought it was pretty good. The opening scene where different people pitch their crackpot ideas for film scripts is among the funniest I have ever seen. I think the film would have been even better if it had continued as a light satire instead of becoming a crime film though the self-referential ending was very clever…

However I didn’t figure out who the person sending the post-cards was? Can someone explain?

it was just the screenwriter he was talking to on the phone at the end of the film. at that point, tim robbins’s character and the audience get that the guy he killed wasn’t the right guy, but it really didn’t matter.

“it was just the screenwriter he was talking to on the phone at the end of the film”
Yes I got that. But was it some character from earlier in the film? I thought it might be but maybe not

well only the actor’s voice is credited in the imdb, but it also lists him as phil/blackmailer, so unless he said his name was phil at the end, maybe there was someone he talked to on the phone named phil at some point?

I checked out the ending again and I didn’t hear any mention of a “phil”. Maybe I will check out the rest of the film and see if there is a phil there somewhere. It might be a name on one of the postcards.

I saw most of the film again and couldn’t spot a “phil”. Maybe it was a mistake by imdb.

Anyway I wondered if anyone else had any general comments about the film.
