The Pokemon Black/White 2 Thread

The game has been out for about a month now. It’s a pretty standard Pokemon game.

This is the thread for discussion, trades, battles, etc.
What I’m looking for: The previous generation starters. What I have to offer: Gible. I have a ton of Gibles. I needed one with a Jolly nature and that was a pain in the butt to get.

Both Bricker Jr and I are playing. I had been hovering on the periphery of this game for a while, and my son convinced me that the advantages of two players in the same house, one with Black and one with White, were well-nigh incalculable.

So – I am trainer “Bricker,” and I have defeated the Elite Four and the former Champion to become the greatest trainer in my little version of the Unova region.

Woo hoo!

Is this a standard Pokemon game? Bricker jr says that features like “Join Avenue” are completely new.

On the subject of the current generation of Poke-games, let me vent for a moment : Fuck you, Game Freak, for the XP ratio adjustment that made grinding levels even more of a fucking chore.
Whew, thank you, I feel better.
I have all of Generation 3, 4, and 5. I’ve got access to… well, everything that isn’t legendary. It just may take time to breed an egg. So you’re looking for the G4 starters? Chimchar, etc?

I haven’t really paid much attention to B2/W2. Is there some specific draw to it that I should know about.

That said, I do have all the starters in the original version of White. Are there any specific issues with trading between the versions??

B2/W2 adds a ‘Medal’ system - Achievements, or Trophies, if you’re a console gamer. It integrates with the Pokemon Dream Radar game on the 3DS. It advances the story from B/W by two years, and has a Memory Link system that allows you to see extra material if you’ve played through B/W.

Couple of new gimmicks, including a mini-mall your character can manage, and the Pokemon World Tournament that brings back enemy trainers from the series’ entire history.

No big differences in story structure or gameplay.

And B/W/B2/W2 are totally inter-tradeable.

Interesting, but I’m not sure I’d spend money just for those features. Pokemon is mostly an electronic substitute for my obsessive-compulsive/hoarding impulses.

Good to know. Thanks!

I’ve enjoyed it more than White (I have Black 2) although yeah, it’s nothing revolutionary.

One thing I like more about this one is, for me, the grinding seems less. At the end of White, when you beat the elite 4 they had, I think, lvl ~55. But, the new area you were able to go to had trainers that were around ~65. I’m not sure how I was supposed to compete. In this one, at least, it’s a lot smoother.

I do like the ability to change the game level. The AI when you have it on Challenging is a lot tougher.

Well, there are a couple of 'Mon (or Formes of 'Mon) that are exclusive to W2/B2 - so if you don’t get those games, you’ll have to live without, or find someone to trade you.

But yeah, I’m in a similar boat - I don’t care about the story, the side games, tournaments - just collecting Pokemon and filling up the 'Dex.

RandMcnally: Yeah, I had noticed the jump in difficulty after defeating the 4. I managed to muddle through somehow and had forgotten about that.

From CandidGamera:

Yup, that’s me. Though my ability to care comes in fits and starts. I don’t think I’ve touched the game since April (PAXEast). That said, it anyone want to trade feel free to send me a PM. I have some version of every non-Legendary line (except Kecleon I think) and I might as well get something accomplished while I watch the election returns tonight.

Got a Kabuto? Theoretically, I can get a fossil for it in Platinum. Practically, I’ve undermined the entire continent looking for one. Of course, I need it in G4, and if you’re running on White, then it won’t help me.

Yeah, unfortunately I have everything on Gen5 now. Sorry.

Eh, no worries, it’ll turn up eventually. Might be able to snag one in HG/SS, somewhere - just haven’t totally completed those two yet.

So you can’t trade backwards, even if the Pokemon existed in the previous generation?

Correct. Generally speaking, this has almost always been true - trading Pokemon forward a generation is possible, trading back a generation is (generally) not. (The exception being G1 / G2).

G3 is Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen;
G4 is HeartGold, SoulSilver, Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.

The thing that bugged me most was that when bringing my Pokes forward from Gen4 to Gen5, I couldn’t have them holding items to bring with them.
