The political rage that I feel is eating me up

Moderating:

This thread is for people who wish to express their anger and frustration over the results of the election. To continuously exhort them to feel otherwise is verging on a thread shit. Please drop the “helpful advice.” Thanks.

Sorry.

OK. But in order for that to happen, you need public figures who act in good faith. The Constitution requires people’s good faith actions for it to have actual meaning.

[deleted] …just saw the modnote to the post I was responding to. [/deleted]

Yeah. Despite how some people look at it the Constitution isn’t some magical binding spell that limits what can be done all by itself; it only matters if people actually enforce it. And now the people whose job that is will be fascists, who have no concern for the law whatsoever.

No, it causes anxiety just to think those people are so stupid. Prices will come down now! Wow. Voting should take a little more effort than preparing your shopping list.

That more than anything else is what fries my ass. As long as eggs are $1.99 a dozen, as long as the hoi polloi get all the bread & circuses their little hearts desire, you can throw all the heretics into the ovens that you want. Nobody cares. Should have just thrown in with Schikelgruber back in '42 and saved a lot of time.

I’m pissed, saddened and ashamed to be an American (as far as being viewed on the world stage).

My sadness is emerging and is now the dominant emotion.
The song Kothbiro is running through my mind.
The rain is coming.

and yet threw away a chance to vote against him.

he literally got away with trying to overturn an election. that’s treason and yet now he is back.

No, because I would never vote for Harris, either.

exactly why your opinion isn’t worth listening to.

I’ve been feeling myself working through the Kübler-Ross 5 stages of grief:

Denial
This stage was on election night, up until I went to bed. I saw the writing on the wall, but kept telling myself no way can trump actually be getting re-elected- late vote counts will turn things around; they have to!

Anger
This came when I woke up the next morning to learn with 100% certainty he had won. You maniacs!!! You reelected him! Ahhh, damn you! God damn you all to hell!

Bargaining
I’m not sure how, or even at all, this figured into my grief process. Maybe when I started telling myself “maybe it won’t be so bad. Maybe the House will hang on and be blue…maybe trump’s advancing dementia will hamper his getting much done…maybe his new advisors and cabinet members will be so incompetent they will get nothing done either. Maybe…maybe…ah hell who am I kidding. We’re screwed (the Bargaining stage maybe lasted 5 minutes). Then straight into….

Depression
This is the stage I’m in now, but I’m working on getting to….

Acceptance
Which in my case will really be something more akin to ‘numb resignation’.

There’s more!

“I will rain hell on Washington D.C.,” he said. “I have five lists ready to go and they’re growing. List number one—we’re gonna fire. We’re gonna fire a lot of people in the executive branch of the deep state. Number two—we’re gonna indict. We’re gonna indict Joe Biden and Hunter Biden and James Biden and every other scumball sleazeball Biden, except for the 5-year-old granddaughter who they refused to acknowledge for five years until political pressure got to Joe Biden.”

“Number three—we’re going to deport. We’re going to deport a lot of people, 10 million people when growing, anchor babies, their parents, the grandparents. We’re going to put kids in cages. It’s going to be glorious. We’re going to detain a lot of people in the D.C. Gulag and Gitmo and list number five—I’m going to recommend a lot of pardons. Every January 6 defendant is going to get a pardon, especially my hero horn man (Jacob Chansley aka the QAnon Shaman*)* he is definitely at the top of the list,” he said.

So. Melania and Barron?

Well that likely AG seems nice…

My political fury is trying to navigate the fine line between not following the (political) news as closely as I used to in order to preserve whatever remaining peace of mind I still have (ignorance is bliss), and the necessity to be as vigilant as ever with whatever’s going on (knowledge is power). I’ve been in a total quandry over how much I should accord each of those mindsets.

IDK. I went cold turkey.
I’m so mad at the media right now. I can’t trust them.
I could not watch Fox, ever.
I think CNN was in some kind of trance or something. I think they lied to themselves, and then lied to me.
PBS is fond of playing down off-putting ideas. And it tends to make a person discount the importance.
I don’t trust online news. It’s so hard to wade thru the crap to find truth.

I don’t know how I’ll get news that’s true. I just don’t know.

I feel like that old saying “If you tell me it’s raining, I’m gonna look out the window before I believe it”

AP and Reuters will always be sure bets.

ETA: Please no one “oh you sweet summer child” me with “yeah, they’ll becoming after those two too”.

I’d also suggest foreign papers like The Economist or The Guardian or BBC.

My fear, as well. In the general shock and grief at the Harris loss, and in the hatred of Trump for good reasons, what’s been lost in the discussion is that Trump is a diagnosable sociopath. He has no empathy for people or their plights. If they can’t actually do something for him, he has no use for them. He acts on impulse without regard for consequences, and has no remorse about harming people.

And now it looks like he might have both houses of congress at his beck and call to help him wreak havoc. He will also have a White House staff that will not say no to him. In his last term, he had to weed them out by firing a lot of them. This time he’ll make sure to hire those who will abet his every criminal action from the get-go, or at least not question him.

The ACA will be the first thing to go. He absolutely hates the fact that Obama’s name is attached to that and that people call it “Obamacare”, and it’s the only reason he wants it gone. There is no plan for replacement.

He will definitely go after those he perceives as ‘enemies’, if for no other reason than they dared to speak the truth about him. He will pardon the January 6th criminals, who will likely go back to their paramilitary groups to create more mischief.

He spent four years doing nothing in the oval office and there is no reason to believe that it will change. He didn’t come out of that job looking like he did when he went in because he actually did the work. He’s a fat, lazy, ignorant asshole who considers hard work to be beneath him.

We can take no solace in the fact that he will be unable to run again. Assuming that he doesn’t trigger a nuclear war, we have Vance to look forward to as a candidate, or - god forbid - one of his idiot sons running for the job.

I’ve said this before, but I really hope that I live long enough to piss on his grave, but at age 77 that may not be possible. Perhaps I can make it a requirement in my will that any of my kids who want their share of my estate will first have to fulfill that dream.
