No, not most Trump voters. The vast majority of Trump voters have no idea what they’re supporting, and do not want violence. I’m talking about what I read on right-wing message boards in various parts of the internet. There are hate sites, full of Trump supporters, that think political violence is good and necessary to restore this country. There is a minority in this country that is very tied in with Trump that wants violence.
I’m in a very bad spot right now. I’ll admit it. I will get over it eventually. But 74+ million people voted for a fascist, and I’m pretty damn pissed about it.
Trump will undo Obamacare. Many states, blue states, have a safety net for that. That youngster (i’m 20 years older) Mike Johnson wants me to go stock shelves at Target or something, so I can have health insurance? No, me and Mikes parenst are going to stay on Medicare. And no dumping that all into an Advantage plan. But I will need to do that (Target job) if he gets rid of my social security.
There’s been a total overreaction. I live in an area that’s probably 95% Republican, and they’re not bad people. Misguided, perhaps. But they’re certainly not racist/evil/Nazis. (And I’m saying this as someone who absolutely despises Trump.)
I get the feeling a lot of Dopers are living in a bubble.
First…quit reading rightwing internet sights spouting hate.
People find it easy to spew hate online.
They gotta get off their couches and actually do something.
I’m willing to bet 95% couldn’t or wouldn’t do that.
This is plain and simple fear talk.
It reminds me of a dog who just got hit by a car, if you go near it, it screams in pain. If you touch it will bite you so hard and scream in pain.
You can’t really help it.
People just take a breath.
If bad things come we’ll have to deal with it.
I don’t live in a bubble. I live in a county that voted over 75% for Trump. I know a lot of MAGA people.
It’s not an over-reaction to be extremely agitated about a guy who tried to overturn an election becoming president again. We know he tried to trash our voting rights by overturning an election. We know he trashed women’s reproductive rights. We know he wanted the military to attack protesters. We know he’s talked openly about people shooting the media and guns being turned on Liz Cheney. We know he’s joked about the political violence that visited upon the Pelosi family.
It’s not an over-reaction to be enraged by this election.
How helpful is it to regurgitate it over and over?
Get yourself prepped. Grocery up, ammo up. Find a way your family can be closer. Find a friend.
Join a resistance group. Don’t know one, start one.
Do something that helps.
Bitchin’, moanin’ and gnashing your teeth are all for nought.
You do know, right, that minimization and gaslighting aren’t actually arguments?
Whether you think people are being hyperbolic or not, there are no end of good reasons to be highly suspicious about what Trump might do in a Trump II.
Summary denial is at least as powerful as catastrophization.
