The Poseidon Adventure.... WTF??? Big FLUB

I am watching this movie for the umpteenth time, on AMC. I’ve noticed this before, but am just now saying something about it.

When the tsunami hits the ship and flips it over, why are the chairs still suspended to the floor? The precluding scenes make it obvious that the chairs are not bolted down and are moveable. However, only some of the chairs fall. I can understand the tables being anchored, but the chairs? How would you pull up to/away from the table when the chairs clearly have armrests?? FLUB FLUB FLUB!

And chairs aren’t exactly the most stable of furniture, especially when they’re on unstable flooring and there’s water whoosing about.

The even bigger flaw–it is impossible to have a tidal wave in the middle of the ocean.

I once took a geology course in college and it was explained to me. I don’t remember the specifics but there must be a shore present to create a tidal wave. No shore–no tidal wave.

Not 'zackly. It’s not the shore that makes the wave rise but the shallower bottom as you get closer to it. The wave is far less apparent over deep water but passing over a shallow spot away from shore would make it rise dramatically. Of course that doesn’t make the mmovie much less ludicrous…

Here’s a little more, and a great site for all movie goofs.
