This thread reminded me of a question I’ve been meaning to ask: Was the 1981 Hall and Oates song “Private Eyes” the theme song from the 1981 movie “The Private Eyes” starring Don Knotts and Tim Conway?
I remember the song being in the movie, but I may just be conflating things since they came out the same year, and I was nine years old. Wikipedia and Google aren’t helping me out, but I know somebody here will be able to.
You’re conflating…my parents have the movie on DVD (don’t ask)…and the song is nowhere in it; it was apparently just a coincidence.

I did think it was kind of weird. Hall and Oates might have been a little too hip for a Don Knotts movie.
Did they used to play music in the theatre before the start of the movie back in the 80’s like they do now? I wonder if that’s what I heard.
Anyway, you didn’t have to go and watch the whole movie just for me, did you? If you did, I apologize. 
I don’t remember the kind of stuff they play today (newish hits-to-be with announcer), but there may have been something more muzakky.
