I knew it!
I am getting cantankerous in my old age. I just thought that was stupid.
The question I want to ask is when will the damn thing start working (with or without black holes)?
I really miss Phil around here, but even more than that, I really want to explain to him how backlighting can f&ck up a picture.
Meh, never mind. Apparently I’m in a snarky mood.
The LHC is going to turn the planet into an ultradense particle about the size of a pea.
Sort of inevitable, really — what with Earth being a Type 13 planet and all.
Everyone does not want to ask that question. I do not want to ask that question.
I was hoping for a different Brian Cox.
and in it’s final stages to boot…
I always wanted to ask why they gave it a name that is so close to hard on. I can’t read about this thing without wondering what scientific knowledge can be gained by the rapid-fire smashing of giant penises.
It’s just a video of guys talking? Now I want to ask if they can’t type. How much information technology can people use, anyway?
I want the collider to answer how the universe expanded out of nothing, not how data does it.
If anyone cares, the context of this is that in Brian Cox’s talk at TAM, he put up a slide with responses that had been published from scientists to people’s concerns that the LHC was going to destroy the world and whatnot…
…and the last quote was from Brian himself saying “Anyone who thinks the LHC will destroy the world is a twat” which he was surprised to see published by whatever newspaper/magazine had interviewed him (and that his mum subscribes to)
We need to build it and find out!
(My computer doesn’t have sound. Is the clip something that can be summerized in a few sentences?)
Basically along the lines of (after Phil says where they are and mentions TAM London etc): “Will the LHC create a black hole and destroy the world?” “Yes…wait, that was the wrong answer wasn’t it…no”
See? See? That was, what, 130 bytes?
Boy, that video was beyond silly. What a waste of energy and electrons to have that on youtube.
Well played, sir/mam.
