The king was in Northern Ireland today and CNN made a big deal of him referring to “this place” rather than Northern Ireland or just Ireland, presumably threading the needle between those who would prefer re-unification and those who would not.

My wife is enthralled by the royal family, so we’ve watched lots of documentaries and dramas about them, and I don’t ever recall hearing that Philip was unfaithful to Elizabeth.
There was a bit of a suggestion in The Crown
From everything I’ve seen and read, everyone prefers someone else to Charles, except Camilla, and this has been the tragedy of his life. The Queen preferred Andrew to Charles; while they were together the world preferred Diana to Charles; now most of Britain appears to prefer William to Charles; and so on. One might almost feel sorry for him if he weren’t such a complete berk.
Was there? Before or after they were married?
After, I seem to recall.
This thread title is incomplete; should read: “The reign of King Charles III of the United Kingdom and of his other Realms and Territories”.
“The reign of King Charles III of the United Kingdom < of Great Britain and Northern Ireland > and of his other Realms and Territories”.
The reign of His Majesty Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of His other Realms and Territories, King. Head of the Commonwealth. Defender of the Faith.
He doesn’t reign as Head of the Commonwealth, nor as Defender of the Faith.
Very clearly after they were married but obviously The Crown is a less than accurate dramatization
I just found these titles at Wikipedia’s List_of_titles_and_honours_of_Charles_III

…in quite a few ways. That’s one of the problems with dramatizing events that the audience was alive for and witnessed when they happened. I bailed on the series after seeing how it presented Jack and Jackie Kennedy.
There is absolutely no evidence in real life that Philip had any affairs while married to Elizabeth.
It was Louis Mountbatten, who in many ways was more of a father to Charles than Philip was, who advised Charles to “sew his wild oats” before settling down to marry a “suitable girl.”
nitpick: “sow,” as in “plant,” not “sew,” as in “use thread on cloth.”
I blame autocorrect
Oh, is that what I am? I usually style myself as GenX rather than Boomer, being born in 1964. It wasn’t the Beatles on Ed Sullivan for me, it was KISS on the Paul Lynde Halloween special.
/hijack, with my apologies.
Yes. The best description of it that I have read said that the the initial seasons at least were very accurate in a general sense*, but less so in a specific sense. That is they get a lot of the overall details right, but particulars might be off.
So while it’s right that there was a period of great difficulty in the marriage of Philip and his Missus, there is not much evidence that he actually strayed.
*Mainly because except for HM and the Duke, when was filmed everyone else portrayed was long dead and in many cases their children with them. In latter seasons many of the protagonist are still alive.
Ironic considering how he was cuckolded himself.
Apologies. My republican and nationalistic sympathies ars showing. I am glad that Charles III is the first monarch since George I not to have ever ruled over any part of the subcontinent.
Disagree that this is the ONLY reason. The title “Queen mother” has a centuries-old tradition. It is used when there is no confusion over names.
Season 5 of The Crown is set to drop in November and will mainly cover the 90s so Blair, Major and the death of Diana.
