But you can buy a hammer. I mean he’s 74 years old, it’s not gonna take that much.
The cane he’s got in that video has a longer reach than most hammers you’re going to be able to secret into the bonny moor, and considering his upbringing he probably has some experience with fencing. You’d be hard-pressed to take him down before the guys who are watching with binoculars from their Range Rover half a mile away catch up to you.
But my lawyer has advised me that that’s all I should say on the topic of hypothetical regicide.
Band name.
Yeah was gonna say, there’s likely a number of blokes about that countryside who have taken the real course in How to Not Be Seen.
Also, there’s a reason it’s minor news when Chucks, or his ‘rents while they lived, would just casually bump into randos going about. They are not doing that all the time, and it’s not like the morning public announcement would say say “HM will set out at sunrise down the upper Glen Haggis trail east to the Mt. Todger cut”
Oh, I remember that video! Bless her, QE II was the best of that lot.
Ummm…am I the only one who thought: “What lousy weather! Why would anybody want to go walking or biking on a day like that?”
Here’s a slightly longer version of the same video…with a few seconds at the beginning where the cyclists are just starting their day. They step outside for the first time in the morining, look around and say: “Oh! The weather is optimum!!!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-d_ZUCZiddc
Obviously, I ain’t no Brit. They luv their dreary weather
Me…well…gimme some sunshine, okay?
A charming chance encounter with HM. Thanks for sharing.
I heard “optimum - for the midges!”
I heard “for the midges” too, and King Charles himself says that the midges are bad around 0:50.
What are “midges”, please?
That is a normal nice day in the UK.
Tiny blood sucking fly.
Pretty much any small fly. In parts of the US they are called No-see-ums.
GAH!!! Ninja’d by DrDeth
Invisible death mosquitos. As opposed to those fine Canadian ones about the size of pterodactyls that will carry off small children.
Got it. That I’ve experienced.
In western Scotland the midges can get really bad in terms of the sheer volume of them. You can even buy midge traps.
The Wikipedia page above on the Highland midge says that Queen Victoria, contrary to her usual directions, permitted smoking at Balmoral in order to repel the midges. Sounds like things haven’t changed too much since her day.
Glad to see this.
A new reign and a new Royal Cypher, but:

How much does all of that cost to create? I mean, it’s fascinating to read about, but still…
I would not think that much in the overall scheme of things.
Other countries have costs associated with the turnover of heads of state - usually more often than once every 70 years. Since Eisenhower in 1952 there have been… what, 12 different presidents?
