Since your username tagline says something about pedantry, I think it’s fair to be pedantic here. Charles is not HRH (His Royal Highness); that’s a style for certain other members of the Royal Family. The King himself, and his wife, are Majesties, not Royal Highnesses, so the correct prefix would be HM. He was a Royal Highness up to his mother’s death - but at that time he didn’t have subjects (he was himself one).
Quite so. Let me rephrase that to say:
It may well reflect the opinion of HRH Chuck about the quality of wine consumed by the commoners, soon to be his loyal subjects
Multiple choice? “All of the above”?
I just have to add that I’m immensely enjoying the parody series The Windsors, and I was delighted when one of the episodes touched on this very subject! Charles and Camilla are driving along and suddenly the car stalls. Turns out, Camilla had mistakenly filled the tank with red wine, not knowing that it only runs on white! Charles has Camilla push the car into a gas station while he steers. Charles doesn’t want gas, but he buys a case of Pinot Gris from the proprietor!
The lampooning in that show is absolutely merciless, and it’s no wonder they cancelled it after news of Charles’ illness. Charles is portrayed as a clueless genial imbecile with completely wacky environmental ideas like “agricultural homeopathy”, and Camilla as an evil conniving shrew. I doubt the royals thought it was as funny as most of the rest of us did.
Another portrait, another controversy: https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/23/style/catherine-princess-wales-tatler-scli-intl/index.html
Not much controversy there. Everyone can have an opinion on art but that’s not a portrait commissioned by the government or the Royal Family. Tatler magazine commissioned it. That doesn’t hold the same weight as an officially commissioned work.
The recent portrait of the king was similarly not commissioned by the government or the royal family. It was commissioned by the Worshipful Company of Drapers.
Of which the King has been a member since 1971.
ETA Chuck also sat for the artist. The Tatler portrait was done using public photos and no cooperation from anyone in the palace.
The new bank notes are starting to be released:
What was on them before his mum, then?
Here’s a sampling of old British banknotes. The last issue before Queen Elizabeth appeared for the first time in 1960 was the 5-pound note issued in 1957 which featured a helmeted figure of Brittania. Other notes appeared to have a variety of possibly mythical figures.
See all the banknotes that the Bank of England and HM Treasury have issued and then withdrawn, going back to 1694.
The ones from the 1910s clearly have George V’s picture on them, though;
It is interesting that they were already issuing £100 notes in the 1720s, though. That sum of money is worth about £17,000 today. Definitely not pocket money.

Yes, I just noticed that and was going to modify my comment.
The ones from the 1910s clearly have George V’s picture on them, though;
Those aren’t Bank of England notes. They were issued directly by the Treasury to deal with a shortage of gold coins. The King was on them because they were issued under his authority, like coins and stamps. The Bank of England was privately owned until 1946.
Charles appears to have a rather petulant expression on the new ones.
I just got my first King Charles banknotes…
…and had to immediately give them to a tradesman. Considering I hardly ever use cash these days it may be a while before I get another I can study.

I think it’s a pretty flattering image. Much fuller rounder face than IRL.
Kate writes to the Irish Guards:
Kate Middleton addressed her absence from the Trooping the Colour Colonel's Review by writing a heartfelt letter.
Hate to see art damaged just to make a political point.
Activists from an animal rights group have vandalized the first official portrait of King Charles, which is currently on display in a London gallery.
