The Repeal of Obamacare/ACA: Step-bystep, Inch-by-inch

I was just on a call with a GOP staffer who said, “Well… we’re Republicans” when asked if they could pass anything. It was amusing.

So Basically, the House passed a bill hoping the Senate wouldn’t pass it. And now the Senate is passing a bill hoping the House won’t pass it?

And Bingo was his name-o.

Truly some profiles in courage.

Hey, that works! Just put together something so stupid and self-destructive that nobody would pass it! Did that with the whole “sequester” bluster-fuck, put together a towering inferno of dumb, and it will fail, thus forcing Congress into intelligent and responsible behavior! What could possibly go wrong?

Oh. Wait. I remember now…

Under my authority as Queen of Romania, I hereby appoint jsgoddess as Congressional Expert of Choice with all attendant privilege and honor thereof.

Tremble and obey, my possums!

I know, if they want to force a conference, they could put in a billion dollars to fund abortions.

Aw fuck.

Still to risky, they should include a declaration Obama was born American and not a Muslim

They spent 7 years passing bills that they hoped the President won’t sign. That’s all they know to do.

It’s basically a giant game of chicken at this point where no one wants to pass this bill, but no one wants to be the reason it doesn’t pass. So, yeah, how good legislation often gets made I’m sure.

This was a sham single-payer bill produced by a Republican, which had zero chance of being passed by Republicans in the first place.

Bernie Sanders has his own version to bring to the floor, and asked Democratic Senators to vote “present” on the current in order to record a vote without giving Republicans a talking point, and so avoid playing the Republican game there.

See the 2:31 post over at FiveThirtyEight.

House has declared “martial law” until Tuesday, so they can vote on the bill the same day they get it (by my potentially flawed understanding).

Jesus, these people have become the actualization of every liberal’s caricature of Republicans. Apparently the problem was the name. Skinny repeal. Now it’s the freedom bill.

I still think this is all about getting a “win” for Trump, because if he doesn’t get one soon he’s going to do something that will be too crazy for even the most hard-line Trump apologist to ignore.

Maybe they could pass some sort of bill that renames the ACA and use that to trick Trump into thinking that it’s been repealed.

Something tells me that’s not actually possible.

Now you’re thinking on his level!

I wolfman, Senator from the State of Disillusionment, propose the that the font of the ACA is changed to Comic Sans, thereby ending the tyrany of Obamacare forever.

If Democrats are so in favor of single-payer, why didn’t they vote for it?

Because it wasn’t real, dipshit.

I just voted for single payer! Just now! I was told by the internet fairy that my vote is very important!

Here’s a slightly more direct link

I’m making popcorn!

This Graham/McCain press conference was surreal. The gist seemed to be that - the “Skinny Bill” is the worst thing ever, it’s going to destroy the insurance market - so of course they want to vote for it because Obama. But they’re scared that the House might trick them and pass the bill after they do. So there not going to vote for it unless the House double pinky-swears on their mothers grave that they won’t pass it. Or something.
