The Republican national Convention

Not to be ageist, but I’m going to assume no one in this thread knows what twitch.tv is. It is the #1 esports streaming site / let’s play site. It is partially known for its extremely toxic and youtube-comment-esque community.

For some reason, in addition to video games, it is also streaming the Republican National Convention. The chat comments are hilarious.

Favourite: This is the cutscene at the beginning of Fallout 5.

What is Fallout? One of those board games you young people play?

I assume they also decided to go ahead and take the financial hit for when Queen sues them for using that song.

Wait, doesn’t Alabama have lots of foreign automobile manufacturing plants? It’s been some time since I’ve been through Bama but I seem to remember Toyota and BMW among others. Seems like ole Jefferson’s constituents might have something to say about ‘furrin’ trade.

You mean “bi-sexual Indian Parsi”.

She’s rickrolling the convention?

Now I feel old…

Her performance was beyond awful, and some people are so wound up with rage and bitterness that they end up losing my sympathy. I doubt her speech moved the needle. If you hate Hillary, you just hate her more. If you don’t hate her, you probably feel sorry for her for a few minutes and then wish she’d just shut up.

That being said, I’d say that the rest of the lineup has delivered the goods. Many pundits are balking at the walkouts and absenteeism of the establishment, but their absence might actually end up being a blessing – assuming people are watching the convention. That itself might be the real question: exactly who is watching?

Joni Ernst: Farm girl, served in the military, senator. She is the perfect Republican spokesbot – an advanced cybernetic speech making machine. Too bad everyone is heading for the exits.

Line of the night goes to Samantha Bee:“Scott Baio is there, marking the second time he has had to sit and watch helplessly while someone jumped the shark.”

After Melania spoke, NBC had Newt Gingrich on. He, of course, said it was a wonderful speech and that he was looking forward to comparing it to Bill Clinton’s speech next week.

Seriously.

Bill Clinton, the best political orator since FDR, versus a woman for whom English is a second language and has made her living via her good looks. Yeah, that’s a fair comparison.

Anyone else notice that Trump came out after Melania’s speech to congratulate her and kind of made a big deal pointing at her tits? Those Republicans have really picked a classy guy.

A unique speaking style. Yell each word like it’s a separate sentence:

“Donald! Trump! Will! Not! Hesitate! To call! Radical! Islamic! Terrorism! By it’s name!”

Joni Ernst is auditioning hard for 2020.

They have random military people speaking that no one has ever heard of. “Get fired up! USA!!!” These speeches are incredibly repetitive. I’m done. Good night.

“see zem driven before yuh…and hear da lamentation of dar wimmin!”

It was even a failure as red meat for the base, because most of them were probably watching Fox News anyways, and it didn’t cover her speech because Trump phoned in for an interview while she was speaking.

Melania Trump, 2016 convention speech: “Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

Michelle Obama, 2008 convention speech: “Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

Good job GOP.

Edit: More.

Melania: “From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect.”

Michelle: "And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them. "

Good lord what a trainwreck.

Ba-da-bing!

It will be hard to top that one. But looking forward to the attempt.

What Trump’s entrance reminded me of:

Give Miss Transylvania a break. She tried to write her own speech but they had to remove large sections of it: “Donal’ vants to suck your blood.” What was left would have lasted two minutes so they had to pad it out with a real First Lady speech.

Important parts of Melania’s speech were plagiarized from Michelle Obamas 2008 speech.

Sorry if I repeat. But I didn’t plagiarize.
