The Republican national Convention

By reducing taxes on everybody with the biggest tax reduction in history (his words). Duh.

You can’t change people, but you can change the system. Eliminating earmarks was one small way to do that. It changed the incentives. That’s how you change systems, you change the built in incentives.

One positive aspect of the Trump candidacy is that it’s making Big Money impotent, as well as the standard campaign lies and spin. Clinton has blown through millions trying to bring his poll numbers down and she’s failed. All the spin and professional handlers in the world has led to her leading by 3 points.

That’s what change looks like. Now if only we can get decent candidates to run in this changed environment.

Yup. Trump is not a small government conservative. He’s not even a conservative. This is the Democratic Party circa 1960.

Just saw a tweet that Molly McIver has already posted a statement apologizing for this speech as well.

:p:p

Lyndon Johnson pushed the anti-establishment clause of the First Amendment? What?

Here’s a thought-Rather than believe a word of what Trump has said about what Clinton’s policies are going to be, why don’t you listen to her acceptance speech during the Democratic Convention and find out first hand? I can almost guarantee there will be more substance in her speech than what you heard tonight.

The IRS rule governing tax exempt religious organizations. Trump is going to get that repealed. It’s long overdue, that law was never passed transparently and it was more about retaliation against political opponents than anything else.

What are the most heinous policies of Barack Hussein Obama that need changing? Most of Your Guy’s supporters hate him because a black (well, non-white) was elected President. Twice.

Ms Clinton has never preached Revolution. She’s intelligent. And sane.

(Please define “Beltway conventional wisdom.” Don’t just repeat phrases you heard somewhere.)

Wow, Trump just called for a religious theocracy…

I’ll be very interested. But standard Democratic or Republican policies are not change. That is the very definition of the status quo.

He loves those people, the carpenters and the bricklayers. He just doesn’t always pay them.

then maybe the solution is that only celebrities with popular TV shows and series, movie cameos, books, and selling buildings with one’s name on it, should run for POTUS or any political office?

Trumpism is unsustainable. He’s only up there because of that, not even just the money itself, tho without it, he’d be nothing.

The longest acceptance speech since 1972, according to CSPAN

Takes him a long time to say nothing.

So she’s not going to change things. She’s going to continue the policies of the last eight years.

It’s okay to think that’s just fine, but you don’t need to defend against every attack on Clinton. She’s not perfect. Some attacks will be fair and accurate.

I’m just catching part of this. What problem doesn’t The Donald fix? Build a wall, cut taxes for everyone, college kids get taken care of, veterans go to any hospital they chose, Obamacare repealed and replaced so everyone gets the doctor they want, kids will all have great schools better than public ones, eliminate waste, build all the infrastructure needed to be upgraded in America, appoint justices to the right of Scalia, renegotiate all trade agreements, etc. There was more but net net he all but promised everyone in America a pony.

This is Donald Trump you are believing. This is a man that will say anything to seal the deal(and that’s a play right out of his own book), then do everything possible once he gets what he wants not to have to pay for it. Everything he does, he does for one man only-himself.

One way is to only support the more independent types such as John McCain or Joe Lieberman for the Presidency. Clinton was that guy. It can work, it’s just that the problem in our modern age is that candidates have to be exciting. Even some very smart people on SDMB who should know better support their candidates based on the excitement level.

He keeps building to his climactic crescendo, and then keeps talking.

Hey, maybe that’s why he was able to stay on script: because he knew he’d be center stage for so long.

I’m not believing anything he says that isn’t factual. I don’t believe for a minute that he will pay for what he is promising.
