The Republican national Convention

I’d really prefer not to see a political party referred to this way. We have many posters who align themselves with the Republican Party and it casts a wide net on them.

No warning.

Thirded on removing “under god” from the pledge and money. It’s completely inappropriate, but really far down the list of things to be addressed. Considering the political fallout it would generate it’s not even worth pursuing at this point.

Enough of this vague “But that isn’t real change!” crap. Why don’t you give us an example of what you mean by the “real change” you wish to see?

So, where were all these dangerous brown rabble, just itching for a bitching? Weren’t they supposed to be shrieking with inchoate rage, threatening if not committing wholesale mayhem? Where were all the shit-disturbers? By now, we were supposed to be viewing barbarian hordes flinging themselves at police barricades in their fury and determination to kill Porky. Whitey. Whatever.

We didn’t get none. Bout all we got was some dumb-ass cop shooting a black man, lying on the ground with his hands up, for the criminal protection of the addled and helpless.

“Why did you shoot me?”
“I don’t know.”

As a pessimist, about my only source of unalloyed happiness is when the Bad Shit doesn’t happen. It’ll do.

I haven’t read all the comments since yesterday, but what was with Trump’s ass-grab on Ivanka? I know he once said that he’d like to “date” her, but that was a very un-parent like grope. I’ve never grabbed my daughter like that, and have never seen any father do that until now.

Which Democrats have said these things? Can you give cites?

Pax Americana? Fifty years or more of pushing people around? Installing and supporting ruthless and cruel dictatorships because they weren’t Communists? * Pox* Americana, and good goddam riddance!

I’ll give the Illinois GOP some props for removing a delegate for a Facebook post.

Lori Gayne posted a picture of rooftop snipers near the convention with this caption:

Like it or not, Republicans, this is the face you present to the rest of America.

You’re both wrong and you’re both right.

adaher is right that Americans don’t see the problem as not enough conventional Democratic or Republican policies. He’s wrong that people see the problem as too much conventional elite wisdom of the left and right, but only because his terminology obscures things.

iiandyiiii, you’re right that Americans disagree about what policies they want, but you’re wrong to dismiss his statement of discontent.

Discontent is what is driving this election; failure to see that is going to cause someone a lot of stress and anxiety post-election.

I said it earlier and I’ll say it again:

That is what motivated people to support Bernie Sanders on the left, too.

Americans are locked into a system that rewards “winners” so well that they can’t hardly lose while “losers” find themselves further and further behind the curve. They see from the numbers that the economy is getting better, much better, but they don’t see any of that money themselves or in the people around them.

And for more than 20 years now, Fox News has been relentlessly beating the “everyone is trying to kill you and take your [del]stuff[/del]freedoms” drum so that Americans are fearful, anxious and depressed. This is the world that Roger Ailes, the Koch brothers, Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, etc. wanted and now by golly we’ve got it. Only problem is, it turns out that things aren’t going quite the way that they thought it would, despite how predictable the path was.

Orange Priest: Look to your sins, Hillary. America is dark and full of terrors.

The problem with those who despise government is, when elected, they govern despicably!

The right despise government but seem to lack any concrete plans. The Donald’s promises to ‘hire the best people’, and make things ‘great again’ notwithstanding. Their forte is clearly obstruction. And it’s hard to sell that as a way forward, as they’re discovering.

Darn that Royal Crown Cola!

Wait, right now the Republican party IS the party of hate. The leadership has thrown their weight behind Trump, they ignored attempts to bring a vote for freeing the delegates despite several states wanting that vote. Trump’s message is undoubtably one of hate and fear, hate for the “other” eg muslims and immigrants. Right now the Republican party has endorsed that, so it’s fair to say that at the moment the Republican party is the party of hate.

That wasn’t true before and it might not be true in future, but its true right now.

There are a lot of contractors, and a limited amount of work, and you think a contract protects you. Trump also doesn’t rip EVERYONE off; no scam artist does. He’ll always have some great references he can send your way.

It would be interesting to know whether she’s been deliberately dishonest and misleading. It would certainly be a disappointment if so.

As far as the condo that never got built, I don’t blame Trump or Ivanka for that. There’s no logical or reasonable way a licensing entity like Trump can guarantee the fulfillment of projects undertaken by its licensee. Such a practice or requirement would virtually lock the licensor into having to underwrite whatever project the licensee might choose to undertake, and to whatever practical or extravagant lengths the licensee might go.

And as far as Ivanka’s statement about male/female pay scales within Trump’s campaign, you have to remember to take media bias into account. Are they being truthful or deceptive? What I’d like to know is if the campaign’s functionaries are being paid unequally for equal work and hours, or whether the Boston Globe just added up male salaries and female salaries in order to arrive at their figures without taking into account that some of the higher male pay is perhaps for experienced high level talent in running campaigns, talent for which at this point there may be a shortage when it comes to female talent.

There’s an extremely offensive meme about this, but I’ll post it because hey “black humor is like food, not everyone gets it” Stalin.

I’ve lived through them in Atlantic City in '80s and '90s. There’s still plenty of outstanding suits against him.

My father, my father, my father…my Fuhrer

rock party:

A pretty good way to restrict Muslim immigration, if you think about it. Hard to judge the hotness of someone wearing a chador or hijab or burqa.

I’ve been wondering about that myself.

I think Trump’s initial impulse was to squeeze Ivanka’s ass, but he held back at the last second and only fondled her hips through that tight, tight dress.

Maybe it was her shoes that gave him wood. I realize that all professional women who want to be taken seriously need to wear high heels (insert roll-eyes), but Ivanka may have been the first to deliver a political convention speech in fuck-me pumps.
