Seems as though Michigan Republicans think that being charged with a felony means you’re still qualified to be an elector.
Six Republicans who are facing criminal charges after signing a document falsely claiming that Donald Trump won Michigan’s electoral votes in 2020 were renominated by their party, over the weekend, to be GOP presidential electors this year.
And
However, the 16 Trump electors in Michigan signed a certificate, inside the state GOP headquarters in downtown Lansing on Dec. 14, 2020, falsely claiming Trump had won Michigan’s 16 electoral votes and they were Michigan’s “duly elected and qualified” electors. The document was sent to the U.S. Senate and the National Archives.
In July 2023, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, a Democrat, brought eight felony charges, including forgery allegations, against each of the 16 Republicans whose names appeared on the false certificate.

Arkansas Supreme Court upholds the denial of petition requesting that abortion rights be placed on the ballot, because the required documentation was not submitted at the same time as the signatures.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton abusing the power of his office for political and personal gain? Who could imagine it? It’s not like he has been facing corruption charges for years, or that last year he was actually impeached by the Texas House. There’s no way he could be trying to intimidate Latinos.

Maybe federal investigators can get somewhere against him. Too bad it would just be more fodder for the “the Democrats are persecuting us!” crowd.
The people who really believe it are generally too few in number to take over the government, and are demonstrably too stupid as well. It’s the far larger number of people who just say it to get along that enables it to happen on large scales, and that makes it worse. They know it’s evil, but they do it anyways because it easier and/or safer for them.
But I don’t think that Trump is anti-Semitic in the holocaust denying way that Owens is. He more just goes along with the stereotypes of Jews being obsessed with money, controlling the banks, and being more loyal to Israel than the US. Trump actually sees Jews as like minded people who should be supporting him, since he too loves money, has got a Jewish son in law and is giving Netanyahu everything he wants.
So I don’t think that Owen is trying to cozy up to Trump with these remarks. She is either trying to cozy up to an anti-Semitic audience, or she may actually believe them herself.
Serious question (that probably admits no answer than “because they’re nuts”): How can MAGAts be pro-Israel (“I stand with Israel”) and anti-Semitic at the same time?
It is an oxymoron, which makes sense because they are morons.
MAGAs are pro-Israel because the alternative in the region is Islam, and they sure don’t want that. With “the Holy Land” under foreign control, they are able to convince themselves that Judaism is the root source of Christianity and the God is the same God, so it’s sort of okay for Jews to be there defending those “Christian sites” and standing against the Muslims.
At the same time, they still believe the stereotypes about Jews and money, and the idea that Jews are trying to take over everything. And those Jews don’t accept Jesus as God’s Son/God’s second incarnation, so they are untrustworthy and unworthy.
There are some that will explain the the New Covenant makes Christians the real Jews and the ‘’‘Jews’‘’ are actually worship the Anti-Christ and are part of the Synagogue of Satan.
And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of the first and the last, who was dead and came to life: I know your affliction and your poverty, even though you are rich. I know the slander on the part of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. — Revelation 2:8–9 Synagogue of Satan - Wikipedia
I think “The enemy of your enemy is your friend” prevails here. If not for more-hated other enemies the Far Right and Israel would be at each other’s throats.
More than just “enemy of your enemy”, it’s a realpolitik of an alignment of interests. Israel wants a diplomatic shield and military support. They need to delicately accept the peccadillos of their international sponsor. That often means politely ignoring anti-Jewish rhetoric in the U.S. while benefiting from pro-Israel actions.
The American interest is to ensure price stability of oil and sponsoring multiple regional powers is how we’ve been attempting that. Anti-Semitic Americans are fine with letting some Israelis benefit from that in return for cheap gasoline and foreign influence.
DeSantis is sending police to the homes of people who signed petitions to put Florida’s abortion amendment on the ballot to check for “fraud.” The petitions had already been verified and validated.
IOW, DeSantis is trying to intimidate people who oppose his positions.
