Now that they’ve voted Liz Cheney out, Republicans are grasping at some other explanation – any other explanation – besides her disagreeing with Trump for why she had to go
Evidently they reject Our Version of Reality, and Substitute Their Own.

Gee, I can’t see anything going wrong with this:
I can’t help noticing that his name is almost the same as Daredevil’s secret identity.
I also notice that, fortunately for him, this legislation wouldn’t apply to him. Unless he registered with the International Fact Check Organization.
Who will check the factcheckers, and will they be subject to the same rules as the factcheckers they’re checking? And who will check the checkers checking the checkers?
It’s checkers all the way down!
Orwell was an optimist.
^Bumper sticker!
The bill is an amendment to the general Education Code for Texas. Violators would be subject to any disciplinary actions available under the Code.
Ah; thank you for the clarification. I’ll have to look that up to see what the penalties are.
It’s honestly exhausting having to deal with a bunch of grown adults who have been made mentally disabled by RW media.
People who aren’t stupid, yet have the exact same response to information that someone stupid would.
Fuck Republicans
Evil sonsabitches
That is one of the worst judicial decisions I’ve read in the past few years. I’d say it was completely specious, but that’s calling it too close; IMO this reasoning is out there.
Yes, this one would be equally at home in the Stupid RIOD thread. They have invalidated every ballot initiative for the last two decades??? Looks like they just opened the door to chaos. I suppose they think that’s worth it to get rid of legal cannabis but I’m guessing the good citizens of Mississippi will disagree.
I’m hoping there’s an anti-abortion or gun rights amendment or two in the pile there somewhere. It won’t change anything but it’ll be fun to watch them scramble to come up with a reason not to.
Punish pool workers harshly. But give probation to republicans who register and vote for dead relatives.
Because only liberals can commit fraud. If you are a Republican, you are an evil fuck.
Even before clicking on your link I said to myself “I bet its those project Veritas losers”. What do you know I was right.
Looking through this list, there isn’t actually all that many of them.
Most of them are procedural (term limits etc.) and not obviously partisan.
Of the partisan ones:
So only the last one would be a problem for the GOP, although changing all the state flags back again might be a bit of a pain in the ass.
Republicans. ALL Republicans, suck.
Now they are against the bipartisan effort to investigate the Jan 6 attack on Congress. Even after the Dems gave them everything they wanted, instead of going Republican style and just forcing it on partisan lines.
That’s because it’s a direct assault on their party base, the people they are catering to to get and keep elected.
Nothing is going to change in this country until Conservatives stop listening to lies and start fighting for the truth.
Farhid Zaccharia from CNN had an excellent dissection of the takeover of the Republican Party, from the transformation by Goldwater and the John Birch Society, through the Southern Strategy and Reagan, the rise of Fox and Limbaugh and Gingrich, and how it led inevitably to Trump, or someone like Trump, feeding on the anger and sense of abandonment and betrayal that the Republican Party created with conservatives.
A betrayal of the ideas of small government, of reduced spending, of balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility, of fighting social change and reversing Roe v. Wade. Gone are reasoned arguments from the right - the Republican Party has become the party of anger and racism. The fear of whites losing power, the fear of secularization, the fear of the marginalized getting equal standing in society.
I know many of you probably know most of this, but some of it predates me and I wasn’t knowledgeable about the Goldwater shift. I learned a few things with this show.
America will not be able to recover until the Right is held accountable to the truth, that alternative news sources are scrutinized and held accountable, and reasonable principled conservatives fight to displace the Qanon and Trump hysteria. I don’t think the Left can bring the Right around - it will take forces on the Right holding their own accountable and fighting the nonsense.
Facts:
Joe Biden won the election fairly. The election was not rigged. There was no widespread fraud from the Dems.
Donald Trump led efforts to overthrow the rightful election, including trying to coerce Republican election officials and government leaders to change the outcome of the election and certify new results based on whatever lies they needed. Including stirring up a mob he knew included elements of violence and chaos (Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, etc) and pointing them at the Capitol and Congress and Pence. Then watching in glee while they violently assaulted Capitol Police.
Joe Biden and the Democrats are not a giant ring of satanic pedophiles. Anyone trying to argue they are is deluded.
The right doesn’t really care about pedophiles - they are perfectly fine with Matt Gaetz, Jeffery Epstein, and the like. It’s just a bludgeon to claim against Democrats because who can be for pedophiles? Well, Gaetz doesn’t count because reasons and Epstein doesn’t matter because he’s dead now.
Donald Trump is not a christian. That would require him to believe in a greater power than himself. His awkward ploys for evangelical support are embarrassingly transparent, hamhanded, and demonstrate his total lack of sincerity. (“Two Corinthians.” “It is a bible.”) Yet the evangelicals still support him because conservative judges and he’s actually doing something against abortion. They are either glad to have a useful tool, or are actually deluded into thinking his displays are sincere.
Just like his faux patriotism. He is such a clown. His displays get ever more obviously fake - he actually hugged an American Flag. It’s like he’s punking conservatives, they are falling for it, and he keeps trying ever more bold and transparent tells, but conservatives still aren’t waking up. “Oh man, I know, I will hug a Flag. That will show the joke.”
Zaccharia pulled out a quote from William F. Buckley, Jr., where he said, “A conservative is someone who stands athwart history, yelling Stop, at a time when no one is inclined to do so, or to have much patience with those who so urge it.” And Conservatives see that quote and think that’s a good thing.
I have news for you - you can’t stop history. It inexorably continues, day after day. The only way to actually stop it is to destroy human existence. There’s no more history only when there’s no one left to observe it. Conservatives seem inclined to think that that’s all they have left - ending history.
I would like to see this - could you please give a little linky?
Dan
Will say, @Irishman, your thoughts go along with mine, about how the psychological condition of Denialism has become a near philosophy with the Right. And I wonder, from a Christian perspective, if the denial of God’s reality has reached a point where denialism is almost a sin, especially in how denial formed the framework of the Right’s COVID response, and subsequent denying of the unmitigated, objective disaster their response was.
This simple denial of reality cost well over a half-million lives, for God’s sake.
