It has been a couple of months since I’ve looked at the boards. What kept me away? Well, by the end of this past semester, I really really needed a break from my studies. I couldn’t bear to get near my desk (and my computer) for a few months.
But I seem to have gotten over my temporary allergy to my desk. (I still have no desire to get back to my work, but that is a story for another day.) I sat down today to see what had been happening at the SDMB.
Big changes! New forums, new moderators, new software, and new posters galore. New names for old trolls! I don’t know my way around anymore. Could you all help a bewildered Bean and fill me in on all that been happening around here?
Welcome back Green Bean. I am the poster formerly known as lswote. I hope you will accept my apologies for what happened a couple months ago. I am very sorry and I am glad to see you back.
I seem to remember you told me you did rafting or something in the summer. Is that where you have been?
BTW, I moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida about a month ago.
Well Elizabeth, I got fired from my job in White Plains. Not sure why exactly, the reasons they gave me made no sense. Maybe my generally lousy attitude may have played into it or maybe it was just I worked with the wrong people. Anyway I was pretty unhappy the way things were in NJ and I have a college friend here and I love the water and the Keys so I thought maybe I would find activities I like here and meet people. I just found work and am still living in a hotel until I get a place to live, but it is a start.
But I am doing better in a lot of ways. So how are you? Have you been outdoors a lot? Did you get a tan?
Hey Green Bean, I was actually thinking about you and Billdo today, wondering why I had not seen you guys on the board in awhile. Maybe we are really sisters, ya know, and an evil Ruler ex-Jedi Knight is our father and we can read each others thoughts and save entire galaxies and stuff.
Hey there, Green Bean. I, too, had wondered about you and Billdo in your absence. If I were you, I’d investigate this whole Jedi Princess angle psycat has worked out. It’s nice work if you can get it.
We’ve not met, much less been formally introduced, but that won’t stop the good wishes.
When I first saw your name a great smile came to my face. In my college days, I used to go to the local park and practice my hoops. Some of the middle school kids started to hang around and we’d kind of play basketball while I tried to improve my game and teach them some things. (My 6’7" frame vs a bunch of 13 years olds wasn’t really a game!) One day I was wearing a green jersey and the kids started calling me the “Jolly Green Giant”. Then several variants of the name came up. “Green Bean” passed quickly and they settled on “Jolly” – the name that they called me the rest of my time at the park. Kids can be so cool.
Glad the name “Green Bean” was taken by someone so admired by her fellow posters!
Yea, Greenie! You missed a couple flame wars, some trolls that are of little note, LOTS of flirting due to the new Shayna/Techchick coproduction of the Straight Dope People Pages. Go look and oogle over how freakin’ HOT the dopers are.
AND you missed the NYC Dopefest Redux, in which I had the pleasure of sharing sweetpea vines with the NYC Dopers. Then there was promise of a Tridux, but that fell through.
I am not sure why Bill hasn’t been on the boards. He grew a beard, and is now mildly obsessed with its care and feeding. Maybe he is just too darn busy with it to log on. I shall call him and ask what the story is.
I missed you! I haven’t been around alot either due to the evil co-worker from hell who saw to it that no one has access to the net.
This problem will soon pass as I am coming out of my cave and into the sunlight. I’ll soon have home access and then no one will be able to get rid of me.
