So after the finale of last season, where Sam commits prosecutorial misconduct by tainting a witness, she is angry at Price for NOT committing prosecutorial misconduct . Sam, and only Sam lost that case by being involved- which was both here, prices and the DA’s fault, and then tainting a witness.
But now we see the acquitted guy gunned down- with .38, which oddly Sam owns one, which she refuses to hand over- which is a crime. In NYC, you must hand over your weapon upon demand if you have a permit. The ex-Girfriend of the aquited dude shot him,. , and their big piece of evidence is that she bought a gun in PA six hours before the murder- which is impossible- waiting periods. And certainly a gun store that has camera’s everywhere is not one that will ignore Federal law.
Again, Sam wants in on the case, and again, Price and the DA allow it.. Idiots. The Ex=GF claims self defense, with some emotional testimony and the camera spends about 15 minutes with reaction shots of Sams face.
Then there is a plea conference, and after the accused’s lawyer steps out for a minute, the accused talks to Sam, and kinda confesses. BUT THAT IS NOT ADMISSABLE, since her lawyer wasnt there. And bith Sam and Price know that but they still discuss using it. Again, Sam blames Price for letting the original dude get off- which was entirely her fault.
No kidding, If they can fire Serena for (not) being gay, they can fire Sam for gross misconduct, misfeasance and malfeasance. I wish they would. Were I Price, i couldn’t work with her anymore. But he’s such a, well, a wuss. He is.
But alas, she’s still there next week, And it’s Price’s turn to be personally involved, and he should recuse himself.
The show doesn’t even know what it wants to be anymore. It’s like 12 year olds writing the scripts. The only thing that looks worse is the previews for SVU. Is that still on??
We have Law & Order Criminal Intent Toronto (how many colons should that have?) on DVR, which just started. I hope it’s good and not reused L&O:CI episodes.
McCoy was an asshole, and and Price is a wuss. Yes, Sam committed a crime and misconduct. She would be demoted to handling Drunk driving and bad check writing cases- at the best.
Lost in the stupidity of the episode, I forgot to mention the casual dismissal of Shaw from the cast. He was transferred to Brooklyn 99, er.. I mean Brooklyn’s 88th Pct. At least he got a goodbye I guess. Almost everyone else but Ed and arguably Lennie got not even a mention.
As for who Riley is going to get for a permanent partner (probably not Det Yee), I keep getting this feeling that Brady has watched to many Colombo episodes and want to be a field detective. It would be interesting!
We need a new series: “Law and Order: Aftermaths” - “In the criminal justice system the people are represented by two two separate but rarely treated as equally important groups: the police and district attorneys who apprehend and prosecute the offenders, and the lawyers and licensing groups who clean up afterwards. These are their stories”
Tonight on Aftermaths, Nolan’s girlfriend is sued for wrongful death by the parents of the boy who died partially because she didn’t take a threat to kill him seriously, and the appeals court overturns a verdict because the prosecutor was dating a key witness (retrial produced the same result with a different prosecutor, but it was a mess).
This week’s episode. Looks like it was shown out of order, as Price is secretly dating some psychiatrist, that Sam doesn’t know about. I assume that’s the one he had on the stand last week. Unless he’s dumped her and is dating another one?
As for the case, it’s out of order, too. Another one where they botch the law to get the result they wanted. If I didn’t hate Price before, I sure do now.
And Brady was in the field. She even made an open field tackle. Of course, they could avoid that if they would wait until they in arm’s reach before they yell “We’d like to talk to you!!!”
The charging was off. They wanted to make a plea deal for 2nd degree murder. That’s what he SHOULD have been charged with. This was not a 1st degree murder case. Actually it was more like manslaughter and should never have been 2nd. So if the actual charges weren’t manslaughter, the plea should have been. Like Baxter actually said, you don’t set out to push someone in front of a cab.
Although no one ever called Columbo by a first name, there were scenes where his police ID could be very briefly seen and it had the name “Frank Columbo” on it:
Thus week’s episode true villain was unnamed, but was obviously trump. The crime involved a murder related to a law firm being “encouraged” to “donate” millions of dollars of pro-bono work for the “administration” (regime).
While Dick Wolf’s FBI is pretending they live in an alternate reality where Kash Patel isn’t the head of the FBI and a woman can be NYC’s SAIC, but L&O mothership makes a “ripped from the headlines” story about the current troubles.
Lt Columbo was working the case again, and Sam was conspicuously absent with no explanation. I still wonder if these are out of order.
The Wikipedia article on Odelya Halevi (who plays ADA Samantha Maroun) says that she got married on May 25 in Israel. Perhaps she took time off for the wedding and honeymoon? And note that Mehcad Brooks (who played Jalen Shaw) left at the end of last season. He’s supposed to be replaced by David Ajala. I don’t think he’s started yet, which may be why the lieutenant is in the field with the detective.
