A brilliant man. He will be missed. He was a true firebrand and an innovator.

Oh, no.
A one of a kind mind. RIP, Gil Scott-Heron.
He just released a new album last year that showed how much he still had to say: I’m New Here.
I had the good fortune to hear him perform live once at DC’s Blues Alley, 20 years ago. A very memorable evening.
Can’t believe this news. Such a terrible loss - he had so much more to say. Think I’ll be teaching my students some more of his poetry next Monday morning…
Damn, a rotten start to the day.
So sad. I read a New Yorker about him piece a while ago and it was clear that drugs (crack, IIRC) had the big grip on him.
I read that, too. It’s a sad story and he was addicted to crack for a long time. Scott-Heron is someone I’ve been meaning to check out for a while and it’s too bad this how things ended for him.

Son of a bitch. I saw him in concert in 1981 when he opened for Stevie Wonder. He was pretty good. I also remember him doing “Johannesburg” on Saturday Night Live. RIP, Gil.

It Will Be On The Internet, Though
RIP Gil Scott-Herron!
I’ve had a contrafactum called “The Revolution Will Be Qik’ed to YouTube” in the works for months. You can imagine what a challenge a song like that poses! Now it’ll seem sad working on it…
Just seeing this. Damn.
