“The real problem here is not that supporters of the North Carolina law or the people and politicians who, as you read this, will be flipping out over the administration’s letter to school districts don’t understand gender identity. The problem is that they don’t want to understand gender identity.”
Actually, a girlfriend of mine was put in the hospital that year because she was forced to use the men’s room by a bar manager who knew that she was transgendered, and got the shit kicked out of her. I would have said, “Where did you hear this? Sounds great to me!”
What would your response have been, astorian? “I’m just jerking your chain, dude. I don’t even know the difference between ‘transvestite’ and ‘transsexual’”?
Yes but transvestites are not necessarily homosexuals either and he uses the word homophobia so perhaps he meant to say transgender. Can we proceed based on the assumption that is what he meant rather than picking on some stupid error in definitions? Otherwise this will turn into a thread about how the Op made a definitional mistake.
The fact of the matter is that this push for transgender rights might not be politically possible without the successful push for gay rights. There were concerns expressed by the right that extending rights to gays would start us down a slippery slope. Polygamy and trans rights were among the concerns expressed by the right and frequently dismissed as paranoia by the left.
I can’t guess. Could you dig up the thread where anyone ever made such a prediction?
Interesting that you’ve had to construct an imaginary conversation to prove that your fantasy isn’t a fantasy.
I wonder why… perhaps because this exchange only took place in your totally healthy and not-at-all deluded brain?
Hey, looks like you actually said something true. In your face, you stupid homophobic bigot. There. Feel better now?
Oh, by the way, any sheepish mumbling for paying those sky-high prices on guns and ammo in the wake of Obama’s gun ban that never happened? Thought not. Dumbass.
Given that (according to Wikipedia) leftists have been using the acronym “LGBT” since 1988, that’s more than a quarter century since the left has dismissed transphobia as paranoia.
Why is it that the same people who bitch endlessly about gov’t over-reach, are consistently the same people that can’t to seem to mind their own fucking business about what consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedrooms and bathroom stalls?
However, bigoted right-wingers HAVE been sending men into women’s washrooms in order to cause trouble.
So… They don’t want anyone who looks exactly like a woman, dresses like a woman and has actual breasts to use a woman’s washroom, and they’ll send men into women’s washrooms to harass women in order to prove this point.
Too late; we’re already there and you’re the next contestant!
No, they weren’t “frequently dismissed as paranoia”; they were consistently dismissed as loathsome and stupid things to be concerned about, inconsequential and of no significance to anyone not participating in the events in question. Those “concerns” were ridiculed and made a target for mockery to counter the contempt and hatred they expressed and the baseless fears that they showed in those that voiced their “concerns”.
I have no idea how you could have misread events and people to try and characterize them so inaccurately; perhaps you were dropped on your head as a baby?
“Right-wing paranoids” also predicted that same-sex marriage was going to lead to the legalization of pedophilia and bestiality. How’s that going?*
*FTR - in the event these things happen in 2024 I will still be against them.
