"The Ring" on DVD: tech ?? and a WTF (SPOILERS)

Was watching The Ring on DVD the other night and I was wondering if there are any known technical issues with defective disks. The DVD was choppy and skipping in a number of scenes and froze a couple of times. I remember skipping at the scene where Rachel pulls the electrode out of her mouth and the scene where the father takes his bath, and some other spots as well. Is this widespread? Anyone else?

The WTF is the bonus feature labelled “Do not watch this” or whatever. It seems to be a short made of deleted or extended scenes, incorporating some of the images from Samara’s message that aren’t elsewhere explicated. What is this about? Is it just deleted/extended scenes? Is it an independant project/story of some sort? W, as they say, TF?

The “Don’t watch this” section is indeed just deleted scenes, intercut with snippets of the deadly tape and other images from the movie. Of course, if you want to have real fun, press UP on your remote after the main menu comes up. The selection cursor should disappear. Now, press ENTER.

I haven’t heard of any problems with defective discs. Clean it and try again. If the problem persists, most retailers don’t have a problem with customers exchanging an opened DVD for another of the same title.
