I have just returned from a live performance of “The Rocky Horror Show” at Washburn University, right here in River City(I mean Topeka, Kansas) SPLENDID SHOW, GREAT SINGING!!!
The guy who played Frank-n-Furter was magnificent, and that first view when he darted out to suprise Brad and Janet(dammit) was a scream.
But considering the nature of the show, and that it WAS in Topeka, you-know-who, or at least his followers, were out along 17th street with their signs, ready to tell us we were bound for Hell. So during the performance I got hysterics laughing at the scene where Dr. Scott first kicks out his leg with the fishnet stocking and the high heels, because I began to visualize Fred Phelps in that role.
I hadn’t really expected to see the Phelps clan because this was the fifth of six performances and I had figured maybe they would just hit opening night. But Nooooooo.
You should come up to Canada. Everytime Phelps threatens to turn up here to protest something he’s a no-show – the RCMP and local police forces refuse to provide extra protection for him and it seems he isn’t committed enough to risk martyrdom…
