The role of whitehouse.gov

I’ve always believed that www.whitehouse.gov were an at least halfway neutral entity containing straight information, contact details and the like. No, I haven’t spent much time there. Then, I read this article there, which is… well, partisan. So, apparently whitehouse.gov is the property of the sitting President.

If John Kerry wins the election, will ownership (well, proprietorship) of the domain pass to him just like the White House itself? After the election, will Kerry’s web editors get to work so they have the new site ready for inauguration day, or will there be a time period when Kerry is the President but the site still sings Bush’s praises?

www.whitehouse.gov is the website for the Executive Office of the President. The purpose of that office is to advance the President’s agenda, and as such it publishes partisan stuff on the website. Back in the days of Slick Willy it was the same deal, and will be for whoever wins this election.
