The difference is that there is no “Official Movie Studio Headquarters” that rules over all the movie studios, no “Business Inc.” that has control over all other businesses, and no “All-Sport Federation” to take responsibility for all athletes.
The topic of THIS thread concerns the Roman Catholic Church, not abuse in general.
My point is that in the case of priests sexually abusing children, the hierarchy has at least somewhat acknowledged that it was doing wrong in allowing that to happen. That doesn’t mean that it is doing good in all things or even in many things. My point, as it always is in my posts, is to be precise and not just exaggerate for the fun of it.
No, the topic of this thread is an organization trying to find an excuse for rape, and thinking that a child’s sexual orientation just might be the ticket.
So why do people object when @Wendell_Wagner points out that the organization that is reported as doing this, according to the article you linked to, is one specific Polish church?
Mere “acknowledgement” is hardly doing good considering the damage that has been (and is still being) done, and if you think this topic is “fun” for me, you can just fuck off.
No, it is not “one specific Polish church”. It is a part of the Roman Catholic Church. Am I to assume that The Roman Catholic Church has no authority whatsoever over their Polish brethren? It’s not like the RCC hasn’t stepped in before when it comes to this group. From the linked article:
“In 2021, the Vatican disciplined the diocese of Bielsko-Żywiec for “neglect” in responding to Jan W.’s alleged sexual abuse following a two-year investigation that found that Szymik told church leaders about it twice, but it still took years for the diocese to do anything about Jan W.”
So they CAN do something now, can’t they?
What we want, what we really all want, including a throng of Catholics both active and inactive, is for the Curia, or the Pope in the exercise of his full authority over the Church, at some point already, issue a direct command to all dioceses and parishes in communion with Rome to CUT IT THE FUCK OUT with shit like this.
As per the first report, the Vatican had already reprimanded this Diocese for stalling on their own investigation which resulted in the priest getting the risible “punishment” of a 5-year removal from ministry. That whoever drafted the writ in the lawsuit response felt it was even relevant to to insinuate that “if you’re gay you must have liked it and if you liked it there are no damages” is just astounding. That sounded like an attempt to poison the well in any determination by appealing to the prejudices of magistrates.
So the other parts of the hierarchy in Poland have criticized the diocese that asked this court to determine if the man who was sexually abused was gay. And this diocese has apologized for doing it. That was just four days ago, and we’re waiting to see a statement from the hierarchy above them about this. Again, my objection was that the tone of the thread was toward the entire hierarchy. I’m not claiming the current hierarchy are good. For all I know, they may be utterly evil. Even an utterly evil organization or person deserves to have their evil stated precisely.
Fortunately, he never did that. As he said, repeatedly, all he was doing was making it clear that this was not an action by the Roman Catholic Church as a whole.
One thing I abhor is when people make up shit someone didn’t say in order to attack them. Please stop.
Correct me if I am wrong here: until very recently, the RCC has taken a strong position in opposition to homosexuality. I believe they said that being a homosexual is more or less ok, but it is a mortal sin to engage in homosexual acts. Yet, here we have priests engaging in buggery (pederasty, even) and the church is not doing anything about them. Even covering up the fact that it has happened.
As if, “you must not break this law, do as we say, not as we do” or somesuch.
One of the obvious logical problems with Christian belief of almost all stripes is that Christ grants forgiveness. All you have to do is prostrate yourself unto Him, do (in the case of Catholics) the required penitences (or fork over for indulgences) and all is good. You get a clean slate. Because humans are “fallen”, unable to escape sinfulness, but here we have the cure. You will be cleansed of your misdeeds, after you complete the prayer-saying, restored to a state of innocency.
Priests undeniably have close access to this repair system. They get a clean slate just like everyone else, so they may continue in their position as if nothing had happened. It is not hypocritical or contrary to teaching, it is de rigueur. Perhaps even inescapable. And the church has to cover it up, because confession is absolutely private and sacred.
There may be a sort of flaw in the fundament of their reasoning.
