. . has got to be xkcd’s Spirit. Prove me wrong. Or maybe not. This strip depresses me, why would I want more of that? Farley dying was sad when I read it originally but the years have lessened the hurt. Spirit, though, gets me every time.
Maybe it says something about me that a machine touches my heart more than a dog. But then again the dog was a drawing. Spirit really is sitting out there. Hmmm, maybe that’s why they added the inferior second ending to AI: Artificial Intelligence. Machine forevers are too sad.
Machine “deaths” don’t bother me much (especially when I know they’re not sentient and not some movie AI near-human). On the other hand, this Order of the Stick still makes me complain about dust in my eyes.
Someone on this board posted one about Death talking to a a newly dead dog’s soul and giving him treats and saying he was not a good dog, but the best. It makes me tear up just describing it. Sorry I dont have the link.
Bloom County’s Opus says “Gilda Radner’s not supposed to end” and “Goodbye me” in the next to last original Bloom Country strip. Unfortunately, I can’t find it online.
The few weeks of strips that covered Farley’s death in For Better or For Worse still pull at my heartstrings: Storylines - FBorFW Strip Fix (you have to scroll down a little). It was especially hard in real time because it comes out of nowhere, just like the real thing.
The oddity with RedSwinglineOne’s link isn’t anything of his doing. The server that’s hosting it is just configured weirdly for some reason. And it might be annoying to have to choose an application to view an image instead of it just showing up in the web browser, but it’s not harmful.
