I am in a play in which I have to mention the sculptor (not the actor) George Segal. I am told that it is pronounced “see- GAL” (rhymes with Chagal or Sagal), though the actor of the same name pronounces it “SEE-gal” (more akin to seagull). Does anybody know for absolute certain how the sculptor’s name is pronounced?
AFAIK it’s Sa-GAL. The first syllabe like in ‘bagel’, the second - slighty more pronounced - like in ‘call’.
Thanks.
