Anyone out there a member or have a relative who uses this?
I’m curious to know if this is just someone sticking their hand out for a cut on
discounts that may already be available.

Well, a few years ago when a friend and I went to San Francisco for Yaoi-Con, neither of us were 25 (and therefore we couldn’t get a rental car without massive price hikes). We got Student Advantage cards for the sole benefit of their deal with Alamo, where we could rent a car at the same rate as people a year older. (We still paid a lot as we weren’t eligable for coupons or deals or anything, but it was tremendous savings over the alternative.) So if there’s a specific discount you want, it’s been good for me. There’s certain vendors they seem to be big in with, like art.com, too. Otherwise when I had it I never really thought about it much, didn’t seek out the discounts or anything. It was just worth it to me for that one time, when we probably saved somewhere around 500 bucks by getting the SA cards.
We have something similar here called the Student Price Card I think of it like any coupon books you might buy. Will you use it? Does it get you discounts at places you like to shop at anyway?
It does have somewhat decent deals… if you use them. Last time I bought one I spent 10 bucks to save a couple dollars, it wasn’t worth it. But if you are going to use it (such as it has discounts for places you already shop at a lot) then it can be worth it.
I don’t know that you can get these discounts anyway, I think it’s a specific deal for holders of the card. And (here at least) you don’t have to be a student to use it, just have the card.
