I can see the message board being blocked, but the main site itself?
I suppose that is because of its perceived frivolous nature.
I doubt I could justify my time spent here if I were working for someone other than my kind and munificent employer.
The City of Miami Beach is wired for free city-wide wifi. It’s so hopelessly overloaded that for practical purposes you can only get through in the early morning.
In any case, they have two networks: The general network and the MBKIDS restricted network for children. MBKIDS blocks the message boards (I don’t know about the main site).
Indeed, what with the word “dope” in the title. Reminds me of those high-school websites banned by the schools themselves just because their titles contained the word “high.”
As a young teenage boy around the age of 13 IIRC, I enjoyed endless hours at one of my hobbies building and flying balsa wood model planes. The paint used was called “dope” and in one case actually came with the term printed in large letters right on the bottle. No idea where Dad got it, but he was my dope connection. One day I was affronted by Mom in a hysterical frenzy, clutching the small bottle of dope, demanding to know where it came from, how long I’d been “using” etc. I tried to explain to no avail and was summarily locked in my room with the proverbial “wait till your father gets home!”

Great story but I find it sad your mum couldn’t be bothered to know what her kid was up to before she found his dope stash.
I work at a bank and all social media and web email access is blocked, along with the usual porn and gambling. I can get the the Straight Dope main page and can read the Perfect Master’s musings, current and archived, but the MB is blocked.
As I understand it, that stuff was the origin of the term, which was later applied to drugs.
Use it for its intended purpose in quantity, or in poor ventilation, and you could get a bit of a buzz on from the solvents. Similar to airplane cement before they quit making it with toluene.
I hasten to add that I never intentionally abused either, but when you’re painting something, and get down close to do fine details …
