The SDMB In Harm's Way Honor Thread

May this thread list the names of those Dopers now called to duty.

Regardless of one’s opinion concerning the war with Iraq, the men and women called to duty should be honored and remembered here. May they return safely home to family and friends, and our SDMB community.

We miss you.
My nomination is Airman Doors, inspired by MsRobyn’s thread
MODS: Is it possible to make this thread a sticky?

I second this. However, with OPSEC in mind, I would ask that specifics not be mentioned: units, bases, dates of arrival or departure, etc.

This is a publicly viewable board, to any and all, and security may be a concern. However I think we should at least mention the folks by username.

Tripler
I fully second the idea.

Not having a good grasp of who’s who around here (I just don’t pay that much attention to names) I will say that my good wishes and prayers are always with every service person, and doubly so at a time like this.

What you do is an honorable thing, and I have immense respect for you. Thank you, and know that we’re praying for your safe return.

Bump for an excellent idea.

I agree with the OP with one exception. I think that this should be opened to people who have relatives in Harms Way.

If that works I would put up my nephew Justin. He is in Harms Way and should be meantioned as well.

I can understand if people disagree with my suggestion. At the same time I really have no where else to go to say how proud I am of Justin. Justin is a young man doing a job for the US in a time of war.

Slee

Slee.

Isn’t Tripler in the military? What about Paul in Saudi? (I think that’s his user name)

I just want to say THANK YOU to all our Doper troops (and all the other non-Doper troops). I am truly humbled by your sacrifice.

He is not (as far as I’m aware) a doper, but my brother in law (who introduced me to the Straight Dope 13 years ago) is in the Marine Reserves and is currently serving in Kuwait. My thoughts are with him. (His name is John B.)

My neighbor, LTC Larry. He was a reservist, was called to active duty two weeks ago and will miss his “mandatory” retirement date, thanks to this conflict.

God bless you, Larrymon.

My co-worker’s husband, Amy’s Man. He’s over there right now… She hasn’t heard from him since last Friday. I pray that he is and remains safe and sound.

Didn’t want this thread getting lost…

bump.

We’re considering what’s appropriate. In theory, this is a fine idea, though.

Bumped again.

Not a Doper, but a classmate of mine, Doug. He’s with 101st. He busted his ass and switched units to get sent over there.

PRE-zent…ARMS! <snap>

OR-derp…ARMS! <snap>

A hearty salute to those who honor themselves, and us, by putting their lives on the line in service to their country. May their challenges be met with bravery and resolve, may their victory be swift, and may they soon return home to the hero’s welcomes they deserve.

Sweety’s boss, Mike.

One of Sweety’s cow-orkers has 3 family members overseas, I don’t know their names.

I hope all of them come home safely, but I know that some won’t. :frowning:
