I qualified about a year ago, and they called me back in October to have me on the show, but I had a business trip that week that I absolutely couldn’t reschedule so I couldn’t go. They said they’d “probably” call me again, but so far they haven’t.
I was on 10 years ago – January of 1994 – and won $46,000 in three games. It’s all pretty hazy now, but I do recall that I got all of my final jeopardies right. Three of them were easy – the fourth was one I had no idea how I got it right. It was (something like) "This region of Spain has a name that means ‘Land of the Vandals.’ "
What is Andalusia?
By an odd coincidence, I was talking to one of my freelancers yesterday – he just got The Call (after passing the test seven times), and is going out to tape the first week of February.
Five-time undefeated champion checking in, hence my Member Name. Actually, I am not undefeated since I crashed and burned in the Tournament of Champions.
I was on towards the end of the 17th season back in 2001, won $50,703 and a 2002 Chevy Tahoe.
Final Jeopardy category: The Emmys. *Only person to be awarded Emmys for writing, directing and acting. *
Fortunately the TV show was from the 1970s and not from today, since I no longer watch TV. Who is Alan Alda? won the Tahoe.
Got to say:
"Let’s make it a true Daily Double, Alex."
Whot is Scutland, there, Alex? in a very mediorce Scots burr.
Vhat is Sveden? in an even worse Swedish accent.
"It’s been fun" right before my final Final Jeopardy answer was revealed.
I was on in 1974, during the show’s first incarnation with Art Fleming as the host. Came in second, unfortunately, mostly because I was too slow on the buzzer.
Took the test in April or May 97, got on the second day of taping in July 97, so my show was on the second week of the new season. It was the first time they used the lavaliere mikes instead of the gooseneck mikes, and the first time they showed the audience. They had also just switched to the new question types.
I was on against a guy named Fred, who was on for his fifth time. One of the first categories was called Famous Freds, which he picked right away - but which I cleaned up on. I got the first Daily Double, about who did the “I’m Too Sexy Song,” which I knew. (Right Said Fred) because my daughter was in a play where the danced to it. I’m rather older than most people who know that stuff, so I could see people were impressed.
I came in second (also bad buzzer timing.) We cleared both boards, and we both missed a very bad Final Jep question on Nash Bridges. (The third contestant finished Double Jep very negative. I guess the producers liked the show, because they reran it.
I got a week at a resort near Carmel, which is 60 miles from home. It came with golf and $100 for food every day.
Evil secret - Alex fluffs his lines, and they retape them and dub them in.
