The SDMB "pot o' gold"

Ok, we all know that the board is taking a poop lately. My question to all of you is:

Who here would donate money to the Chicago Reader, c/o Ed Zotti, toward the sole purpose of upgrading the system capablities of the SDMB to make it run much faster and increase load capacity?

I would I am poor, but I will pledge whatever I can muster if anyone else will back me up and do the same. Come on guys and gals! You know you want to!

While I’m not against the idea ( I really like this place and would like to see it working better). I would draw your attention to what Ed. already said about this matter .

According to my calculations, a mere 5 and a half dollars from every member of the SDMB would result in such a total of 40K. Not bad at all

To speed up the board, you should do what every other board does and erase old threads.

Keep the ones on Cecil and the Mailbag, and let all the rest go after 2 weeks or a month of no new posts.

And just let the Pit stuff die after 1 or two days. It’s all repetative after that anyway.

Oat Willie ( or whatever its name was ) would have to pay about $2000 . Now I would really go along with that

Y’know, the other day it occured to me… There’s a lot of folks on the boards who want to send money to help support the Straight Dope, but who complain that there’s no system set up for them to do so… Except that there is, in fact, such a system. Go to the “Buy Stuff” link from the main page, and, well, buy stuff. We could all complete our collections of the books, and heck, I need more t-shirts anyway. Cecil gets money, we get stuff, everyone’s happy. Whattaya say?
