MeanJoe, or anyone else, feel free to start a continuation thread if you’d like! Just please link it here for the rest of us
I was wondering if any of y’all might be interested in starting a …what? “Chat line”… “Bulletin Board” On Yahoo or somewhere?
Don’t get me wrong, I love being a Doper, but I was wondering if the mods might appreciate us taking our little group elsewhere and linking to the elsewhere here?
We could call ourselves The Doper Losers! (Boy, I bet that would get some attention, huh? :D)
I’m still here, hangin’ tough, and lovin’ ya bunch of little heathens for bein’ here with me. I’m at 203, and my sorry German ass is HONGRY!

Since nobody has opened the new thread yet, I’ll just post in here as of yesterday I’m back to 219. But seein’ as how I just had three slices of pizza for dinner who knows how long that will last. (I also had a massive headache today and slept through my workout. Oops.)
I am holding at 173, though I’m now walking to work and back (6.6 miles total, one mile up a pretty steep hill) at least twice a week in addition to my 30 minutes + of walking every day. The good news is that my weight loss convinced my doctor not to subject me to a repeat glucose tolerance test–he’ll settle for an HbA1c instead.
Thanks for the scale tip guys. I think I’ll stick to the cheapest option for now-- just dealing with the fluctuations of a cheap scale.
I think I’ve broken my plateau though! It’s hard to tell single pound differences with my scale zipping around from 201 to 205, but I think I’m around 202/203 right now, which is (finally!) a two or three pound loss! I think I’m begining to tone up some of this flab too.
I don’t know if anyone noticed, but I didn’t post on my weigh-in day, Wednesday.
I gained 8 tenths of a pound. Dammit!
Oh well, not the end of the world. I am hereby using this post to re-motivate myself.
21 points per day. You can do it and you will see the results next Wednesday. Go with your bad self. Stay focused. Remember your goals. You wanna be lookin’ and feelin’ fine as Hell next year on that cruise ship! Remember that.
Gazelle, don’t forget that it isn’t the pounds that count, it’s the inches. If you’re working out, that 8/10 of a pound may very well be muscle.
Someone told me an anology to fat and muscle… a pound of fat is the size of a small bag of cottonballs, and a pound of muscle is the size of a pencil. While that isn’t entirely correct I’m sure, it does help keep one motivated and realizing that just because you don’t see the muscle yet, doesn’t mean it isn’t there!
Congrats to all of you, btw! I haven’t been very good with posting like I should
My wife had a doctor’s appointment this morning, and I was along for the ride. So I snuck in and stepped on the scale. 184, fully clothed, which means blue jeans, belt, heavy shoes, long-sleeved shirt, and all the usual pocket junk: keys, change, wallet.
The scale at home this morning was saying mostly 183 and 183.5; there was one fluke reading of 181, but I’m not taking that seriously. I started at 194 (by my scale) 17 weeks ago, with a goal of 172. So I’m essentially halfway.
MeanJoe - thanks!
Quasi and MeanJoe - the old limits on thread length (i.e. 10 pages/500 posts) don’t seem to apply anymore: the infamous If LotR Had Been Written By Someone Else!? thread now has 1,972 responses, which means that it’s on page 40 now. So the mods aren’t going to make us start a new one anytime soon.
I love you too, El Quaso.
Beeg keeses. And NOT Hershey’s, either.
RTFirefly: Okay, that’s great news. We’lll just continue on keepin’ on, keepin’ it off, okay? :D:
Gazelle: Always nice to get a Kees from a pretty lady. Thanks!
Quasi
Not that you’re obsessing, RTF, but before I’d get on my Tanita about a year ago, I’d empty my bladder, empty that other hole, blow my nose take off all my jewelry and get nekkid. See, I wanted to give myself every advantage. I only get on it like once a week now, though! If I wore dentures, I’d probably have taken them sumbitches out too! :D:D:D:D
Quasi
Oh, and congrats RTF!

Gazelle, don’t be discouraged by 8/10 of a pound. A pint of water weighs more than that, and it’s probably not a significant difference statistically (even though it’s frustrating).
What?!?!? You didn’t trim your nails, shave and floss, too?!?!?
Damn! if I’d thought of that, I might could have taken off another half a gram at least!

170 this morning, which was my weight goal for 4 weeks from now (the goal of being toned enough to fit comfortably in size 14 pants by then remains). This is what I weighed in early 1996. The next goal is a good HbA1c and lipid panel on Monday; then I’d like to be size 12 by the end of summer. The goal then is to consolidate these eating and exercise patterns so they don’t require so much effort, and to reinforce a weight in the 150-160 range as my set point. That still leaves me “obese” and over my target BMI, but it’s a weight I was for a long time and I know that I feel healthy there.
Thanks for all your support–this thread is really helpful.
Y’all keep me in your thoughts, please, because I’m beginning to understand what folks go through when they keep stuffing their mouths full of food as the result of emotional upheavals. It’s enough to make you wanna “up-heave”!
Right now I’m still okay, but it’s only because I’m staying away from carbs and beer, but I’m drinking too many diet drinks which is stalling my weight loss.
Just got handed a two year deadline with my relationship which you can read about over in the Pit if you are so inclined, but folks have been very supportive which is another reason I tied the knot at the end of my rope!
Thanks
Quasi
I can’t believe it took so long for me to see this thread. Way to go guys. I’m going to check in and read a page every morning. I was 30 pounds down from 258 last year, then I gave up pushing it. Time to start again. Have to quit blaming my knees for the slowdown. (Arthritis - there are ways to exercise around it.)
I’ll weigh in tomorrow. May not report it, but I’ll weigh in.

Way to go!!! Woo-Hoo!!!
does the nekkid dance of celebration
Okay, okay… that is not so much for you Shoshana as it is my general prediliction for dancing about nekkid.
Really though, congratulations on reaching one of your goals.
MeanJoe
Quasi adds his Kudos to MeanJoe’s! Well done, Shoshana!
