Thanks for the attagirls, guys. And Yeti, thanks for stating the payout – when I finished up at almost 1 o’clock this morning, I was too bleary-eyed to do anything but stumble off to bed, so I forgot to check and see just how much I got for that finish.
Actually, it was rather a fitting ending for me. The very first hand I was dealt in that tournament was 44, and the flop came 454. By keeping the bets small I was able to string a bunch of callers along all the way to the showdown, so I managed to make a bit of a profit on my four of a kind.
Capn, I pretty much agree with you about arrogant Josh, cool Al and “snake eyes” Greg. I also like rooting for Harrington, Negranau, Hanson…and other gracious winners. I saw the WSOP 2004 Hold’em final table with Raymer narrating the more definitive hands and I thought he was very smart and calculating. Even the explanation why he uses “those” glasses made sense to me. Players just couldn’t gage any reaction from Raymer and since they were so annoying to the other players, alot of them STOPPED looking his way at all.
Another player I’m rooting for from here on out is Annie Duke. She dumped the women’s table for the 2004 WSOP Omaha event (playing against the “big boys”) and won her first bracelet in that event. The women’s Hold’em event was pretty interesting to watch; the betting was fast and furious (it was limit betting though) and the final four players were all Vietnamese born ladies…all of them cute, most of them sassy to boot. I forgot the name of the one that won, but she couldn’t carry Annie’s jock if she had one to carry.
It looks like, barring a miracle, I’m out of the game tonight. Shit with work is falling too heavy and I’m going to be busy working or busy passing out from exhaustion when 10pm rolls around.
Yeticus didn’t mention he was playing both tournaments at the same time, one was limit and the other no-limit, so it was quite an accomplishment. Good job Yeti! I would’ve finished better except: a) I got trapped in a bad way; and 2) with a workable stack I had to go help a firend with his car…
But the other news is, I think I am in tonight, if xrayvision gets my email in time.
I wish they could have a pink nametag and a pic that pops up like the rest of the bombshells…I love being beaten down (on a slight occasion) by hot poker mamas!
The big difference between Limit and No Limit poker is that in limit the pot odds are somewhat easier to figure because of the size of the bets. That gives you few options when you want someone to either bet or fold. They may bet a hand that is behind simply because of the odds make it the right move.
That changes in NL. The size of your bet dictates the odds. During your last hand last night, you were making small bets that Duke could easily call. A large bet, maybe pot sized on the flop would have made him fold. Your small bets looked like you wanted him to call. I don’t remember the cards of that last hand, but if he drew out on you, your small bets let it happen.
I’ll go back and see what I had the last few hands… Seems like the last hand I had a set from early on, not sure.
I do remember sucking an easy flush during heads-up play, then the gallery started coaxing Missy into betting it up to keep me from getting cheap cards. Trouble was, I was getting some really good cards and her betting into me was not doing her any good. That’s poker
My last had was a QJ suited (I believe - may have been a Q10). Flop didn’t do much, Ratso-boy won with a pair of A’s (IIRC).
My family jokes that I am a super spendthrift. Seriously. If it ain’t cheap, it don’t get bought. While I consciously recognize I play off a frickin’ DIME, I see 500 point antes and freak. I’m trying to get over it, but I tell you when I double anted last night I was sweatin’.
Yeah, you had me beat on the last hand with a Q until the river. I had ATo and called when you went all in. All of the action was pre-flop, so I was just along for the ride at that point.
The set was a couple hands earlier, looks like that was the hand that crippled you. But even then I had A8o, still a decent hand heads-up. The flop was 828, you would have been hard pressed to scare me off of that. The only other hand you lost a good stack was to my pair of jacks that I had since the flop.
It’s worth noting that you did beat me out of a $800, $1K and a $1800 pot all during heads-up, (and were in the lead for a while!) so don’t be too hard on your self. Just get back in there next week and give it another go.
