Thanks for the chat recap, Yeti. I had my screen resolution set too low to get the chat window always on top, and couldn’t increase it while PT was running, so I missed a lot of the chatting. Every time I had to act, the chat went behind the game…
Man, those blind increases seemed to be spot on with a full table starting.
There seems to be a “Hand History” under “Options”, but I was too busy to click it. I’d like to see what some of those hands were, PT doesn’t have a running hand history like PR had.
The Duck of Suck was back last night. I had a more than a couple of major suck-outs, but I have been pretty disgusted with my play lately. I decided to gamble on a few hands instead of folding like a wimp and donating chips. The Duck makes his own destiny, or some shit. Of course the Duck was down to fumes late in the game due to this [Mike Sexton] Bold, Aggressive Play [/MS], but it all worked out I guess.
And if that is okay, may I submit a suggestion?
We should have “seasons”. If nine people play the tourney, first out gets 1 point, up to the winner who gets nine points.
Eleusis I think it’d be fine if you play. However, I can’t claim to speak for the group. But we’re really not all that serious about it. But it is a lot of fun.
We do indeed do seasons; one season = 3 months. Hence, at the end of June we’ll have completed our second season. We use the North Jersey Poker League logarithmic system. You have to have played at least three games in the quarter to qualify for the rankings. xray usually posts the rankings every week, but he’s been swamped IRL recently.
Sam Stone had said something about playing IIRC, Otto wouldn’t play with us for play money, our “real money” tourneys probably are not much different to him. The big payoff is bragging (and gloating!) rights here on the board, and a couple of hours of highly anticipated fun. I’m not sure playing against us would be much of a measure of one’s poker skills, but I don’t think anyone would object to any SDMB member joining the game. Just get coordinated with x-ray vision before next Thursday, he’s the guy that sets the table up and he needs some info to invite you into the tourney.
Eleusis, the only qualifications to be on the SDMB World Poker Tour is:
Be a Doper.
Know how to play Texas Holdem.
Hi Opal!
You qualify.
Besides, I personally wouldn’t mind seeing how I stack up against a player like yourself. If you beat the crap out of me on the tables, I might rethink my next trip to Vegas and save millions. You would be doing me a service.
Heh…getting whupped up on by a pro would be better than being serviced by the Duck of Suck, esq.?? That’s gotta burn more than logarithmic tables
It’ll be wild if someday we have enough players to run more than one table during a tournament. Just think, you could win back more than your entry fee!
EvilHamster: First, love the username. Second, I’m sure there’ll be room. Just make sure you email xrayvision so he can make sure you’re set up. And if you haven’t read already or don’t have it already get AIM so you can join in the chat. The poker is huge fun (especially when Duke of Rat and Yeticus Rex bust out before me), but for me, the chat is the best part.
My prediction: we’ll have two tables going this week.
My reaction: [Nap Dynomite] Sweet! [Nap Dynomite]
I’ll play if the time works out and someone wants to transfer a buck or whatever to a pokertropolis account. My firepay account is empty at the moment.
I’ll do it if Pokertropolis allows it… I’m still waiting on them to acknowledge my deposit. You have an account SenorBeef there?
Seems funky though since your biggest (AFAIK) tourney win was over 10 times mine… but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you’ll pay me back sometime if possible.
Funky? A big scam on my part to get a dollar out of someone? I don’t play poker online anymore (generally) so I don’t have any money floating around. I’d like to participate in this sort of thing, but I’d need someone to throw me a buck, so I asked if anyone wanted to.
We were on PR. While it might have been Mac-friendly, it didn’t allow private tournaments. We had to set up a ring game with set blinds, and as the game progressed (people went out and others increased their stack) we had to open a different room and everybody had to pack up and move to a different table in order to have an increase in blinds. This doesn’t sound so bad, except that as soon as 2 people sit in, the game starts. So given the impossiblity of everyone sitting in at the exact same instant, 2 people had to sit in and start the game and fold their hands while everybody else stood by.
A royal PITA. Every week.
What we wanted was a private tournament, that played like a tournament. PokerTropolis had this.
None of the regulars used Macs. Back on PokerRoom, there were only a handful of us. I recall maybe one full table of ten, and none were Mac users.
Otto is about the only player with a Mac that has ever shown interest, but as we never played for real money at PR, he didn’t play (PR handles real money players differently than play money players, Otto could not even see the tables we were playing on).
So we could have all put real money into our PR accounts and sloshed thru the table swapping thing every week and been Mac-friendly, or moved to a site that allowed the type of game we wanted. To be honest, I don’t know that Mac compatibility was ever an issue when looking for a new site.
Sorry if any Mac guys feel left out or left behind.
Just giving you a head’s up that you may want to avoid playing anything but your private tourneys at Pokertropolis. I cannot vouch for its authenticity, but when I DID play there, I’d wager that 50%ish of the players at tourneys played with robotic timing and no chat. While few people speak at other poker sites, Pokertropolis was consistent in its actions: http://www.bonuswhores.com/blacklisted-sites.php
