I’ve just been on to customer support. The tournament should show up in the next 15 minutes or so.
…and it’s up.
Signed up…can I get an invite to the chat room?
Hmm, the UI is being a little mysterious for me right now. Next to each tournament is a button with either “Signup” or “Withdraw”. I clicked to sign up, paid the entry fee, got the notification screen, and the button still says “Signup”. I clicked it again, and it withdrew me from the tournament and then changed to button to “Withdraw”. Signed up again, still not in the list of entrants. I better log out and back in.

I still can’t believe it. I had the nuts until that 5 came out.
Well, it was nice to have a little luck for a change last night. Actually, a lot of luck. I feel bad for OMD, but it was pretty awesome to get the third 10 on the turn and the quad on the river. I felt like the Duck of Suck!
Congrats to Aholibah. Sorry I missed the coup de grace though. And of course, all hail the new champ Robot Arm.
My favorite quote last night was after one of Aholi’s big wins, **Exploding Kitchen ** yelled: “Go Ovaries!!!”.
Yeah, it was quite a royal suckout. It didn’t really kill me. Going all-in preflop for fun with pocket Qs against KA killed me.
You didn’t miss much. Her three-of-a-kind beat my two pair. Of course, one of my pairs was the two aces that came up on the flop. Should have figured she had the third; suckered me in good. Congratulations again, Aholibah.
The Pokertropolis hand history still isn’t showing me the other player’s cards.
Thanks, but it’s purely a technicality.
Hey, taking a 3rd and a 2nd in the last two weeks in fields of 15 and 14, respectively, is a pretty good result and I have no problem hailing our new lord and master Robot_Arm.
I, for one, welcome our new robotically armed overlord.
Go ovaries!
I just wanted to throw out my WSOP claim to fame.
Back in '98, I went out to Vegas as a guest of a local rancher who was buddies from way back with Benny Binion. Benny was dead by now, and Ted had already gone to Mississippi. Benny’s daughter Becky and her husband Nick were running Binion’s. My rancher buddy wasn’t even staying at Binion’s since his casino host had moved to the Stardust, that’s where we stayed.
There were big time ranchers coming into Vegas from all over, the reason we were “officially” there was for the National Finals rodeo. The real reason was, of course, to party. The big wheels were rolling in and our suites at the Stardust were party central. So I got to meet some big-time party animals.
One of the guys partying with us was the '93 WSOP main event winner. I didn’t know that at the time, I just tonight saw him on the ESPN re-run of the '93 WSOP. Me, him, and the largest private landowner in AZ (so they said) spent most of one afternoon shooting craps in Binion’s. He never said anything about winning the WSOP, I probably had an inkling what it was then, but AFAIK it was never mentioned.
Binion’s did treat us really well, even though hardly any of the gang was actually staying there. Just previous relationships held lots of sway. After a huge spread put on by Binion’s just for my buddy and his guests, Mr. '93 asked for a limo to take him back to Caesar’s and he gave me a lift back to the Stardust, I had to catch a plane that evening.
I got to spend a couple of days/nights partying with the '93 WSOP winner, and poker was never mentioned.
My buddy (not Mr. '93) got a $25K line of credit at Binions just by asking. He played 2 hands of Blackjack for $5K/hand (on casino approval, they were like $20 tables) and lost both of them. Hadn’t been in the place 15 minutes and was down $10K. We wandered around for a while and came back to Binions. He puts $10K on the Field at the crap table right by the door and hits a 2 or 12, can’t remember, but it payed $20K. So 3 bets and he’s up $10K, paid his marker and is up $10K.
Later, at the Stardust, he drops two $500 chips on the floor at the casino bar. He didn’t know it at the time, but I saw the waitress pick up some chips. He realized he was down $1K while we were there and I told him I saw a waitress pick them up. I recognized which one and the floor manager asked her when she came back by, he got his $500 chips back.
He died a year or so ago after a long bout with cancer.
I can’t tell all the tales, it was a memorable trip, just neat to find out who one of the guys was.
Yep, that’s the guy. I didn’t really want to name him by name since Google came aboard.
And up above I said “Ted had moved to Mississippi”. Of course that should have been Jack, Ted was already dead when we were there in December.
I wish I could tell the tales of those few days, but a lot of it is stuff that shouldn’t be posted on a Google message board.
Ooops. You mean by me naming him, that’s not a good thing anymore with this google ad stuff goings on?
Anything you write here now will be displayed in a Google search. If someone Googles his name, this story will be a hit (and probably near the top of the list).
I think it sucks, what’s posted on SDMB should STAY on SDMB, IMHO. But I bet the powers that be don’t really give a rat’s ass about my opinion.
Is this confirmed, or just a suspected phenomenon being bandied about ATMB?
I just tried googling [“Jim Bechtel” sdmb] and [“Jim Bechtel” “straight dope”]. The first came up with no results, the second gave three hits completely unrelated to the boards (or for that matter, Unca Cecil in any way).
Maybe six hours later is too soon for google to pick up on it. I’ve certainly added fuel to the indexing fire if board posts do indeed show up in a day or two. Oops.
Not according to Jerry , last week. Do you have more recent information than this?
Looks like he has changed the access of spiders to the boards. When Google first came aboard, SDMB was the #1 Google hit for “goat felching”. While that phrase is tossed about here like so much salad, I can’t believe this is the #1 resource on the entire WWW for goat felching.
Since I’m not an expert on how Google searches the site, I’ll just play it safe and no longer post anything I don’t want Google to dig up.
Is the above self-referential?
