Man, I been beating my head aginst the $.99 tourney wall for a week, moving steadily up to 38th place tonight (I finished 11th in a $10 buy in tourney with only 60 players, they payed 10 places…)
Then tonight I decide to try a limit ring game, made 45 in an hour. Hell, the first place in the .99 tourneys only pays $35 or something…
No bots in the ring games, these guys were playing. They just never seen the Duck of Suck in all his glory.
Yeah, it would make sense to me too, but I think we’re trying to make it inexpensive as possible so we don’t drive out our current players from pokerroom out if they’re short on funds. I personally don’t have a problem with it either way.
How about anyone else?
I’m 60% certain that I’m in for tonight’s game…that 40% is the chance that my family might go out for dinner tonight since my oldest son is getting jaw surgery tomorrow and needs to load up on grub tonight since he can’t eat anything after midnight tonight. Maybe we can get done eating by 6:30 so I can get back by 6:45pm PDT. We’ll see how it plays out.
I would mind. Truth is, I’m on a pretty strict budget right now (wedding and the subsequent honeymoon are weighing heavily on my entry-level-job pursestrings). 20 for 33 weeks of play (@.60/wk)? Great, I can justify that one. $20 for 13 weeks (@$1.50/wk)? Still not bad, but I’d rather know that I can play until the jolly fat man is coming around demanding cookies in exchange for the gifts he’s holding hostage.
Dag Otto was actually saying 1 per week.......50 for the rake, .50 for the pot. This would be a .40/week increase, not $.90/week…BTW, are you not counting on winning any of those weeks? Fine by me!
I hate to be a downer like OMD but I’d kinda mind too. I thought when we started the point was to find a site that was free…PR sucked for our purposes so we moved on to the next closest thing to free. To me the point is to play for fun and rankings and that it’s not about the cash (be they shiny dimes or play money that apparently spends as well as any other play money).
The luck I’ve been having, I’m sure not planning on it Then again, I did show last week, won a big $.18 (which I want paid to me as three nickels, three pennies)!
The way that I’m looking at it is something like a coin-op arcade game. Put in a little money, get your kicks, and it’s done. Repeat (at least) 33 times.
I did mis-read the intention, and a straight buck per game might not be awful, but it is as the Capn said. We started wanting something free. When that wasn’t working quite right with pokerroom and none of the other sites offered anything better for free, we went to the next best thing: damn cheap. I’d like to keep it damn cheap, whether I go on a winning streak or not.
And as for the SDMB Tourney, I’m cool with the $.10. Only 3 places get paid, all the other guys still have to fork out. So even though winning won’t break ya even, at least the guys who don’t even place aren’t out any more. This thing was never about money, to me at least.
Just posting a general bit of concern: it’s 6:20, and the SDMB private tourney has not yet shown up in any form on the Tournaments page of Pokertropolis. I sure hope x-ray didn’t forget.
It looks like after you set the first tournament up and submit all the info, the 48 hours notice is waived. I might be reading it wrong, hope x-ray has us covered…
They said it should be up within ten minutes. Tomorrow morning I’m going to search all my papers for that missing game and update the stats. Sorry guys, I’ve really been slacking. I’m sure I’ll find it though.
