Wow! Its a pretty sad state of affairs when you can’t even recognize that yes, you were whining.
And just to help you out with the game of football - Blocking a guy to his side is not an (obvious) penalty. Being pushed from behind into an opposing players back is not an (obvious) penalty. The official calls the game from the field, not behind the camera angle.
My point was (I’m helping you here because you seem a little slow) that if there was a penalty, even an obvious penalty, to whine about it and act like it was a once in a game occurance only shows your ignorance.
Take any football game, record it and watch it again. Watch each play a number of times, in slow motion if it helps. You’re going to see a number of infractions that aren’t called. Does that mean the outcome of the game is unfair? I could review the Chiefs / Denver game agian and point out in each of Denver’s scoring plays where somebody on the Denver squad had an infraction. Maybe Denver was lucky to have snuck by with the score that they had.
SenorBeef Maybe you should watch golf or something that measures up to your precise standards and not work yourself up over the game of football.
My apologies to all the putzes for associating them with SenorBeef
No, shitty was the Bucs losing because of the refs wanting to call a bizarre non-penalty (though they got what they deserved for blowing that lead last Monday). The refs missing one clip on a play that goes the length of the field is just how the cookie crumbles.
It looks like this thread has evolved into the “bitching about football” thread. The Steelers need to be almost perfect to have a chance this year; I fear that Tommy Maddox has lost his edge. There is no easy solution for offensive line problems; without protection no one can accomplish anything good on offense. Chad Scott and company need a pro-level course on pass defense; the teams that beat the Stillers are good but not that good.
Here are some other things to bitch about:
Buffalo. What the hell happened, Bledsoe? From week 1 to week 6 you go from stud to lame. What happened between now and then?
Donovan McNabb. Did Rush get into your head? There have been some signs of improvement, but you aren’t living up to the high standards set for you at the beginning of the year.
Tampa and Oakland: It’s as if both teams have a hangover from the Super Bowl yet- it’s been said about Oakland, but look at Tampa’s collapse of D against the Colts.
The Steelers can lose this weekend- 1/2 game on the leaders if they win. But Cincy is probably going to upset Baltimore, because Weirddave would be upset.
because I’d be upset? What, the cosmos have now made it their sacred duty to upset me?
And I’m not taking Cincy lightly AT ALL. Marvin Lewis has them honed to a fine edge. We play our game, however ( strong D, pound the ball on the ground ) and we can beat 'em.
To be whining, I’d have to have some sort of personal interest in what happened. I didn’t. I was even happy for the chiefs. I was just making an observation.
In any case, they replayed the video 100 times, and quite a few people agree that there were 2 clear illegal blocks from the back. It didn’t upset me, I just thought it was interesting.
Uhhuh. Are you normally this rabidly stupid, or have I done something special?
I like the Chiefs. I’m glad they won. I had absolutely no personal stake in Hall’s run. It did not negatively affect me in any way. I’m happy for him/them, he made a great run.
You seem too dumb to comprehend this, even telling me “not to get so worked up over the game of football.” It’s quite clear that I’m not worked up whatsoever, I have absolutely no personal interest in it whatsoever, so your entire rabidly stupid argument is based on a premise which is clearly in error.
How can someone possibly whine about something they’re disinterested in or happy for?
**
I was clearly not attempting to make a formal argument.
**
Classy.
Uh… what’s that supposed to mean? I’m wrong about illegal blocks because the score says they won? I’m supposed to be unhappy because the Chiefs - who I like - won?
Anyway, moron, your entire rant seems to suppose I’m some disgruntled Broncos fan. I’m not. I’ve even clearly stated that that isn’t the case, but you still rabidly rant like a fucking moron about it.
In any case, it looks like you’re worked up over this, which is probably pretty unhealthy. There’s no apparent reason to treat me with such ferocity, even if your assumptions about me were true - except some bizarre mental imbalance or some felt obligation to be extra mean because it’s the pit. So if this is your last word on the subject, good for you.
I thought the last call on the Browns-Raiders games against the Raiders was a bad call. I’m a Browns fan, and I’m happy they won. But that observation must be whining, because… uh… uh… denial!
I must apologize to the SenorBeef and the board for my remarks. I was so very much in the wrong.
I did some research and discovered the following in Volume 7, Chapter 6, Page 15, Paragraph 4, Line 6 of the Sportsfan’s guide to Smak Talk, Whining, and Gloating where it says:
" If you whine about a play, condition, call, fan action, etc, it is officially whining. If later on in the conversation (message board rules state if within ten posts of your statement in a message thread) you state that you actually like the team that you were whining about then you are no longer whining."
Please accept my apology SenorBeef. If you will not accept my apology please recognize that I have grown weary of our spat (my guess - the other dopers are tired of this too) and suggest that we choose something else to argue about next week. If so, I will be glad to once again call you a :wally
Also, since I will be traveling for a while I would like to leave my prediction today - Chiefs 31, Raiders 28
This exchange goes far in illustrating my reservations about smack talk. Even though this isn’t a case of “my team is better than yours” it shows the lengths people will go to attack each other over sports.
Or is it just the ancient war between dog and beef? Stay tuned.
The Steelers, on another subject, are madly attempting to patch up the offensive line. I wonder if they can do it in two weeks- and I also wonder if it’s too late for this year. Granted, they have a somewhat softer schedule for the rest of the year, there are some tough games ahead. If they can get their shit straight, the last game of the regular season- at Baltimore- will have a lot of meaning. So much so that I’m going to try to get tickets.
Is there a friendly soul in the area who can help? maybe get me a better price than what I can find online?
I plan on hiding my colors whilst entering the stadium so as not to attract unwanted attention- I’m not a fighter, let them play it on the field. Does anyone have any tips for me on where to park, where to go after the game, etc…?
Where can one get the Sportsfan’s guide, mentioned by BubbaDog? Does he have the only copy?
This is maybe off topic but it’s a an NFL thread and I just want to post this somewhere.
Did you guys see that play that Randy Moss made against the Broncos on sunday? The play at the end of the half when Daunte scrambled out to the right and flung it forty yards downfield to Moss at the twenty. Moss was double teamed but came back to the ball and made a leaping catch between the defenders…but time had run out in the half. So Randy made a no-look over-the shoulder toss to Mo Williams while falling down. Mo took it to the house.
That was the play of the year and it was made by the best player in the game. It’s time to be afraid, my friends. Be very afraid. This is a year of destiny for the purple. Mark my words.
I have to say thanks to the rest of the AFC North.
Keeping the Steelers and Bengals in contention is a very noble idea, especially in the league as it is today. There is still hope for a Super Bowl season from the Steelers.
I’d love to be more optimistic, but it would require a leap of faith. The offensive line needs to magically come together and play Pro Bowl caliber football. Maddox needs time to see his receivers. The defense needs to spend less time on the field, and to somehow find corners and safeties who can cover passes as well as stop the run. It would be nice to have a pass rush too.
With St. Louis heating up the way they are, I hope this week is not another repeat of the early season debacles the Steelers seem to attract. It’s even worse that Bulger went to Pitt and is coming home as a starter for the first time.
This year, the energy isn’t there. Only a sense of desperation; it’s as if the team got a script for the season, saw that they were picked to lose and they’re just working for the paycheck.
