Steelers appreciation thread

OK, guys, it’s time to stand up and be counted.

6-2 is great for the Steelers, but they’re not in the playoffs yet. Now is the time that the REAL fans are getting excited, there’s a lot of hope out there.

But it’s early enough that the fair-weather fans and posers are not here, saying “I knew they would win it all” as they would if any other team had done it.

So who thinks Jerome Bettis is the best back in the league? Plaxico Burress learned to catch a few? Amos Zereoue has the skills not seen since Rocky Bleier? Kordell Stewart has learned to throw accurately?

It’s the halfway point! Time to get on the bus!!!

My fantasy football tight end (Tony Gonzalez) is off this week so I had to pick up a backup. I grabbed Jacksonville’s tight end (there wasn’t much left on the waiver wire). I’d appreciate if the Steelers let him catch a touchdown or two. I’m neutral on both teams otherwise, so I’ll root for the Steelers to win after that.

I’ve been a Steeler fan since the mid to late '80s when they were always a middle of the road team. Growing up in St.Louis I really didnt have a home town team to root for (very few people were Cardinal fans, HORRIBLE ownership) and I like the underdog and blue collar football so the Steelers were an obvious choice. They look great this year and at this point they are one of the top 2 teams in the AFC. Kordell is looking good but those damn recievers can’t catch shit. If they could draft WR’s as well as they draft LB’s and linemen(both sides of the ball) they would be in the Super Bowl every year. How many balls have you seen dropped this year? 20? 30? Bettis rules the 4th quarter. The defense is the best in the game. Kordell is slightly better than adequate. If Plexico can become consistent opposite Ward they can surely go places.

Also, I’ve been warned by my SO that every time I say “GET ON THE BUS!!!” I lose one trip to the bedroom. Apperently its annoying to hear 20 times a sunday. I keep my mouth shut.

I’m not a big Steelers fan, but I do have a soft spot for Kordell Stewart, since he carried my fantasy football team a couple of years ago.

I have been surprised at the success of the Steelers.

I am a Bengals fan. Dammed Bus ran all over us in the Steelers Heinz Field opener.

I’d like to think that we will exact revenge when the Steelers come to PBS. The Steelers have to play 5 more games against the AFC Central don’t they? That’s tough. Any of those teams could beat ya on any given Sunday.

I bet you ARE excited though. 6-2 is a nice place to be.

Go Bengals!

When the Steelers come to Sesame Street? Mr. Rogers? NOVA? Oh, Paul Brown Stadium.

They need to score. Badly.

Oh, sure, the Ravens had what, 8 games without a touchdown last year and made the Super Bowl. Ain’t gonna happen again.

Bettis is a definite MVP candidate at this point. Passing? Who needs passing? That’s like cheating anyway, throwing the ball over their heads. I wouldn’t mind if the Steelers never through another pass if they can run the ball for an average of 190 yards/game.

It’s a hard road ahead. They’re 1/2 game ahead of Baltimore with one less divisional win so at this point they lose any tie-breaker.

Oh yeah, and Go Stihlers!

6-2, should be 7-1. I figure you will lose one game you should win, and win one game you should lose, so I think it will even out.

I dunno why people are on Kordell’s back still. He has good numbers, and those numbers would be great if receivers would catch the damn ball.

It’s amazing what happens when a young team gets some confidence and a little experience. You see it happening with the defense every week, and they keep getting stronger and stronger. The offense is getting there, we just need the receivers to step up.

Although I’m not into pro sports,(don’t get me started), I was born way too close to the confluence of the three rivers,(Belle Vernon), not to be a bit of a Steeler fan.

I think they have enough talent, and enough drive, to be in the race.

I think if you’ve been looking on the boards at all, you’ll see that I’ve been waving the Terrible Towel all year long. But, since I’m about to go to Basic and won’t be able to watch them for the rest of the year until the Super Bowl ;), I need one of you kind folks to assume the responsibility of hammering all the Ravens, Browns, Titans, Jaguars, and Bengals fans into submission for me.

Make me proud. I’ll see how you did when I get back.

GO STEELERS GO!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH! You have GOT to be kidding me! The Stillers SUCK! Bettis can’t run for shit! Charlie…er Kris Brown couldn’t kick his way out of a paper sack!
Or, at least that’s what I see when they play the mighty Ravens!

-Weirddave, who just won $100 off an obnoxous Stiller fan in a bar this week. (He bet me “Any ammount of money”-I should have said $1k, that in their entire history, The Ravens had only beaten the Pansies of Pittsburgh twice. Easy money!)

Um, Dave?

Who’s in first? Or maybe I should be asking Who’s Yo Daddy!

Oh, that’s right, not the Ravens. Hmmm… And as for that fluke win you had two weeks ago, don’t expect a repeat the next time.

Pittsburgh’s going to the Super Bowl, and this time they don’t have O’Donnell to throw the game for them like the last time. I say the Stillers in the Big Game over the Rams by 10 points. You heard it here first, folks.

Christ, how did I miss this thread? Oh, and Dave, need I remind you? Shut yer word hole (He’s still bitter because he had to sport an anti-Ravens, pro-Steelers sig last year.)

“Bettis can’t run for shit?” – Is that why he’s leading the NFL in YPC?

“The Steelers Suck?” – Uh-huh … is that why our record is better than the Raisens?
Anywho, back to the topic at hand. I don’t need to say much, as anyone who’s been on the board for more than a couple days knows how I feel about the Steelers. And bring on the Baltiomore Raisens. Buncha pisssant chumps.

You mean the mighty ex-Browns?

A quick check of CNNSI shows that the Steelere only outgained the mighty Ravens by 168 yards and Bettis only ran for 91 yards.

Weirddave, it must be comforting to know that your team is back where it belongs, on the way down. Perhaps the fan base will shrink, Colts style, to the point that Art Modell decides that he needs to move the team to a nicer city like, say, Los Angeles.

Or Jersey City.

OK, you asked for it…

[bad pun mode]
The Ravens are a Poe excuse for a team!
[/bad pun mode]

I’m looking forward to the rematch, where Kris Brown will only have to kick extra points as the Steelers bury the Ravens, as they should have the first time.

But the Jag-wires are next on the chopping block, and vengeance will be had…

It all depends on which Jaguars team shows up - the one that crushed the Steelers early on and whupped the Bengals last week … or the Jaguars who only showed up for half (or less) of the Titans and Ravens games. Don’t really know how it’ll go.

Anyway, the really good game this weekend will be Florida - Florida State on Saturday night.

And what a sendoff this was today…the Stillers won handily and the Ravens got schpanked!

Sorry about your luck, Weirddave. If I recall, that puts you two games down again?

Have a nice rest of the season. :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s to the Steelers, the sucked less than the Jags did today! Time for Tom Coughlin to use the rest of the year to start “rebuilding” the Jaguars.

We’ll see you every 3 years now, with realignment - can I get worked up over the I-Colts as a rival?

Oh, the UF/FSU game wasn’t all that good either. Was that Florida State or Florida Southern (FSU)?

[homer simpson]
Wooo-hooo! In yer face!
[/homer simpson]

And here’s to Kurt Warner, hopefully leading me to victory this weekend on my fantasy team!

7-2! Next week Tennessee, in hated Adelphia Coliseum.

Guys, I was a Steeler fan back when they actually wonSuper Bowls.

<<<the crowd gasps “oh my god, he’s OLD!”>>>

Maybe I’m a cynic, but I think I’ll hold off celebrating until I’m sure they won’t do an el foldo and miss the playoffs–it’s not like it hasn’t happened before.
