Steelers appreciation thread

Well, realistically they really only need 3 more wins to make the playoffs. That’s make them 10-6. It’d have to be one sad second half to blow that one. With 9 wins last year they came within a Colts loss of making the playoffs. The way the rest of the AFC Central is playing though, they may not even need that to win the division.

Also, here’s their remaining scedule:

at TEN
MIN
NYJ
at BAL
DET
at CIN
CLE

I think we would really have to just go to shit completely to not win 4 of those games. I can see BAL, NYJ, and CLE being tough. We should win at least one of those.

I predict we go 12-4 on the year.

So was I. That’s why I asked people to come out now- when they do win, all the wannabes will show up claiming “I’ve been a Steeler fan all along!”

And if by chance they don’t, I’ll still be a Steeler fan- hey, I sat through both the good and the bad seasons.

[sub]By the way, MysterEcks- are you a Signer?[/sub]

Since you posted such a nice thread when we beat you, I’ll be gracious. We suck. We won last year with a dominating defense and an offense that didn’t maake mistakes. The D is struggling to meet other team’s adjustments, but still very, very good. In the offense, Billick decided in the off season to upgrade. The cornerstones were going to be a strong line ( with Searcy ) a good running game ( with Lewis ) and a proliffic passer ( Grback ). Lewis and Searcy went down, so we’re left with Grback. That would be fine…except…Wanna know what the difference between Grback and Dilfer is? Dilfer is not a tremendously talented QB, but he’s got a few things going for him. He’s tougher than any QB except Farve. He is a LEADER. And…He dosen’t throw the stupid int. Grback does all of that and is no leader, is it any wonder we suck? I will admit that right now, Pittsburgh is the team to beat. We are more talented, we can do it…but only if Billick gets his head out of his…ass-umptions and puts Cunningham in to LEAD the team. AFAIC, Elvis can leave the building, and the sooner, the better.

Hey, I’m a Pirate fan too. Takes all the tension right out of the postseason.

And for the record, that game with Detroit will worry me if the Lions haven’t gotten a win before then.

Nah, I’m a Libra. <<<drumroll>>>

(Real answer–assuming you mean do I do stadium signs or something, no.)

We’re up to 8-2!

Kordell Stewart seems to be improving with age. The only fault I could see today was the pass he threw up for grabs in the 3rd, and another he tried to force earlier- it helps that he’s LUCKY as well.

MysterEcks- no, I didn’t mean stadium signs. It was a game reference based on your sig.

I’m in. Like MysterEcks, I’m old enough to remember when they used to win Super Bowls, and, while I won’t say anything yet, it’s nice to have receivers who can actually catch footballs. As for Ward, I think he thinks the new stadium was named after him and is playing like he owns it.

It may be too soon to say this, but I hope to see the rest of you yinzers on the 36B Bus to the Super Bowl.

CJ

Who’s in favor of petitioning the Steelers to change Ward’s number to 57? John Fiala? I don’t think so.

up to 9-2!

Boy, that was a close one! I see that Vikes fans are crying for a review of the interference non-call at the end of the game. That’s 2 big calls so far this year.

I think it makes up for the Thanksgiving Coin Toss, the failure of the refs to stop the clock after the sack in Cleveland last year, and other blown calls.

But that’s not fair… but it makes for good karma.

I see that Steelerphan is having trouble getting any support in his thread. If it wasn’t for him keeping it going, it would be dead in the water, much like his team will be when it visits Baltimore. Let’s see, you can’t run on the Ravens and Kordell can’t throw a good fit. That smells like trouble for Armpittsburgh.

hahaha a raivens fan making fun of a team because of a precieved lack of offense. Funny funny man. Facts. Pit is 4th in the NFL in offense, Balt is 10th. Pit is number 1 in def, Balt is 3rd. Yes you beat us. And I’m sure you know are kicker missed 4 FGs that day too. All we can say is look at the standings. And you know Kordell is 16th in passing rating and Elvis is 25th. Do you miss Trent yet?
dead0man

No, I don’t miss Trent, I miss Jamal. Let’s see how far the Steelers get with their 4th string RB. The only reason the Raven’s D was so good last year was because of Jamal Lewis. It’s kinda hard to control the clock with nothing happening in the back field. But I’m not making excuses…I’m not going to list all the injuries we’ve had, but with that in mind, we’re still nipping at your heels. By the way, when comparing team rankings, let’s not forget strength of schedule. That’s some non-conference schedule you have there, Bills, Chiefs, Bucks, Vikings, Lions, Jets. Whew They’re 19-40 before this past sunday. Doesn’t get any easier then that. Let’s take a look at the Raven’s non-conference opponent’s win/loss so far…that would be 35-27. Quite a contrast, don’t you think? Before you start throwing out all these offensive/defensive stats, let’s look at who you’ve been playing first.

I can’t hear, where is that noise coming from? OH, I KNOW, IT’S FROM DOWN THERE IN SECOND PLACE!!!

Go Boo hoo somewhere else. Go start your own thread about the Raisens – you and weirddave can stand in the corner talking about how great your second place team is.

Why don’t we look at when we played each other? How’s that for a good comparison?

WEEK 8 STATS:

First Downs – Pit 21, Bal 10
Total Yards – Pit 348, Bal 183
Rushing Yards – Pit 123, Bal 41
Passing Yards – Pit 225, Bal 142

You were saying…what, exactly?

Yes, we lost that game because our kicker had his head up his ass. Point being – we lost that game, you sure as hell didnt win it. Don’t expect to be so lucky next time.

Ravens 1 Steelers 0

The kicker is a part of the team too, ya know.

“Oh darn, we really won that game but that damn quarterback kept missing those touchdown passes.”

Sounds pretty stupid when you replace some words, doesn’t it?

No, it sounds pretty stupid becuase you…nah, too easy.

Anyway, back on point: Try and keep up. I know it’s not easy for a Raisens fan, but do your best. I never said “we won that game, but…” I said virtually doubled all of your offensive stats. 9 times out of 10 that will equal a win in the NFL. You got lucky. You had the higher score. I don’t recall disputing that.

My point is, we kicked the S out of you in all stats in the game (way to not address that point, BTW), but our kicker had a rare bad game. If that’s what you’re counting on to beat us again, prepare to be surprised.

Oh, and you better watch out for those Browns, since by your definition, they are “nipping at your heels”.

In case you haven’t noticed, the Ravens made a living out of losing in the stats race but winning the game last year and they’re doing it again this year. Take a look at the last Titans - Ravens game stats and final score.

“Well, (*sniff sniff) we lost but we had more yards.” You know, when the Yankees score 1 run on 7 hits and the O’s score 3 on 4 hits…THE ORIOLES WIN. (which doesn’t happen too often.)

By the way, Einstein, if you insist on constantly trying to make fun of the Ravens’ team name, you could atleast spell it right. Never heard of Dole Raisens, but have heard of Raisins.

For starters, I am stunned by the brilliance of comparing baseball with football stats. Very, very insightful and relevant. cough

You’re good at taking half of what I say and then arguing against it. If we had slightly lost the stats game and lost the score I wouldn’t have even mentioned it. I just looked at the #s of the TEN/BAL game. Yes, TEN had slightly more offensive production that the Cryvens (since you just demolished me by correcting my spelling, I am forced to go to a backup nickname) had.
But, you missed my point. Judging by this thread, you’re pretty good at that. I said 9 times out of 10 when Team A has 2x (spelled out just for you: Not a little more, not 33% more (like the TEN/BAL game you’re strutting about), but +/- 10% of DOUBLING) the offensive production of team B, that Team A is going to win. Are you really arguing that point? Or are you just going to admit that you got lucky?

Oh, and BTW yourself – “at least” is two words. Though I’d point that out since you seem to be quite the pedant.

Remember, speak loudly. It’s tough to hear you from up here in first place.

You are really reaching now…you are pounding into the ground the fact that the Steelers out gained the Ravens. And that 90% of the time when a team does this and that will win. You seem to insulting yourself and your team when you point out that Pit nearly doubled the Ravens in total yards and still manages to lose. If and when you ever get to a solid point, let me know.

Cryvens? (those were tears of joy last January) Why don’t you go back and read everything you’re uttered the last few hours. You are trying so hard to defend a Steeler loss, it is getting sad. If the playoffs go as they did last year, I’ll see you in the catsup bowl in January then I’ll send you a post card from New Orleans in february.

I’ve grown tired of these petty bickerings so address your reply to someone who gives a damn.

I’ve already admitted our kicker sucked that day. You won’t admit you were lucky to win.

11-5 or 10-6 probably will be enough to get you into the playoffs. I can’t wait til the Steelers clip the Birdie wings and then get to throw them 250 miles southeast to think about it during the offseason.

If you don’t give a damn anymore, then I won’t bother asking you if you want to wager a weeklong sig for next weeks game. I’m sure I can find some other sap to take me up on it. Then again, there aren’t too many Bal. fans on this board that I’ve seen. Either way – you sporting a sig I wrote, or you not having enough confidence in your team to take the bet = happy days for me.

See you around. Or should I say below? GO STEELERS!
