Steelers appreciation thread

Mr Ecks you are a youngster compared to me…I have been a Steeler fan since before they were a good team…I was a Steeler fan when they truly sucked…When they were always the worst team in the NFL…When they were a team that never made the playoffs…Yes that’s right, NEVER! The days of Bobby Layne, QB who usually showed up drunk for the game…Coach Buddy Parker, who was usually out drinking with Bobby…John Henry Johnson…“Big Daddy” Lipscomb…Ernie Stautner…Dick Hoak…Kent Nix…etal…They played a hell of a game and as usual they had a great defense…but couldn’t score worth beans…Now this was probably before all of you were born but I have lived long and the Steelers finally prospered…After I left Stillertown and moved to Washington DC…Now getting away from ancient history and when the dinosaurs ruled the earth, I live and die each week with the Steelers…My stomach is so knotted until the game is over I can’t even drink an Irn Shitty…It’s time for the Black and Gold to rule the NFL again…GO STEELERS!!!

Cheers to the Steelers, the second best football team in Pennsylvania[sup]*[/sup].

[sup]*[/sup][sub]Well, since Penn State isn’t getting to a bowl game, the Steelers can be second best in the commonwealth.[/sub]

Y’know, I had a long reply all typed. I talked a little trash, the actually made a little table comparing Shittsburgh’s and Baltimore’s seasons so far. My 'puter then froze and I lost it all. I will summerize in brief:

Shitsburgh beat Baltimore in stats the 1st time we met. Nice as that is, it basically means dick. The score is what counts.

The Stillers have gotten fat on a schedule that features mostly teams with losing records.

Baltimore has played with so many injuries that each time I show up at PSINet stadium for a game, I’m half expecting to be tapped as the starting RB.

It’s all gonna come down to 2 things. #1. Can the Stillers beat us in 12 days? Given their record against non-pansy teams, I would have to say that it looks good for B-more.
#2. Can anyone else beat the Stillers? Maybe. If not, then they win the division. If so, we do. I will say this. If Shitsburgh had played our schedule: Green Bay, Denver and Chicago, for example, instead of Buffalo, Kansas City and Minnesota, this thread would be a mirror image. Shitsburgh fans, hype the record all you want, you can only play the teams on your schedule, but if y’all think you have a solid track record for the playoffs, you’re dreaming. Enjoy it while it lasts. I don’t know if B-more can run the table. I doubt the Stillers can. There is a world of difference between beating Buffalo and beating Oakland or us to get to the dance, and therein lies the key. Have fun.

Hmm, I honestly don’t remember this, so you guys can correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t this the exact same case for the your championship season last year?
Also, dave, I at least know you can listen to a point, and discuss reasonably --which I’m not so sure you can say about the the one who shall hereforth be known as “He who no longer gives a damn.”

I said several times – The Ravens outscored the Steelers. They get the W. We get the L. No arguments. But, Do you feel you at all got a bit lucky with Kris Brown missing four field goals? Yes, one was blocked…that wasn’t luck. So he missed three. We lost by three points. What are your thoughts on how that game went, honestly? Do you feel like that was a win to feel good about, and you honestly think that Bal will win again next Sun?

Oh, and Montfort?

“Cheers to the Steelers, the second best football team in Pennsylvania*.”

I know that Lancaster County Community College DOES look tough this year, but they’re not better than the Steelers. Now, I’d put them above the Eagles, as I would with (among others) that Pop Warner team I saw play out in Scranton. The Eagles are probably 8th or 9th in PA. Good job, keep reaching for those stars!

You folks are lucky. I live in the SE, and have to watch the games on FOX that involve the Panthers (who suck) and the Redskins (who I’ve hated since Joe Theisman). If the 2nd game doesn’t involve either team, they show Mama’s Family. CBS usually shows AFC East, which is OK, but I want to see more of the Steelers, Ravens and Raiders.

If it’s within your financial means, the DirecTV NFL package is a wonderful thing.

Mouthbreather, thanks for keeping the faith under these attacks.

I guess that weirddave and holdenmagroin are closet Steeler fans, as per my OP.

I hope Fu can fill Jerome’s shoes this week. Beating the Jets this week and the Ravens next week should set the playoffs up quite well.

I also hope that Dish Network finishes the deal with DTV so that they can offer the NFL Sunday Ticket package next year.

You’re quite welcome – although, you gotta admit it isn’t tough. In second place and talkin shit? Who are these fools trying to kid?

Don’t know what groiny’s story is. weirddave is an alright cat(misguided as he is), so cut him some slack. He is loyal to those birdies, I know that much.

There have been threads before for the Cowboys and Browns and Ravens that I have run into for the sole purpose of ruffling feathers, so I understand where these guys are coming from. I hold no grudges. I use the asswhippings we hand out on Sundays as catharsis.

Excuse me? Stiller man? Moi???

Boy, that is low. Murderer? I can handle it. Terrorist? Water off my back. Child Pornographer? Dosen’t bother me, but calling me a Steeler fan…That’s pretty much below the belt… :stuck_out_tongue:

Thankee kindly, MB. I am as much a fan of the purple and black as you are of the black and gold. BTW, Does Bettis being out worry you guys much this week?

That sounds fair. There are many Cowboys fans who live around here, and I was forced to listen to them make noise in past years about Dallas. I guess some people have to root for the other teams. Insults are inevitable, but I hope they remain reasonably civil- I’ve seen what can happen when it gets out of hand.

Aw, come on. If I wanted to get below the belt I’d call your team the “Old Brownies”, and say that changing the uniform colors and the city changes nothing…

For most games this year, I would say no. Against the Jets, I am really whishing he was healthy. Fuamatu Ma’afala is a decent backup, he’s got the same running style and size that Bettis has. But, he’s just missing the…oomph that Bettis has (Can’t think of a good word for it, but I think you know what I mean.) We’ll see Fu and probably more of Famous Amos than we usually do. Hopefully, they can get the job done. So, in a nutshell, I don’t like Bettis being out. However, I am still optimistic for the Jets game.

We’ll see what happens. We have five games left, and three of them are going to be tough. We Still have Jets, Ravens, and then we close with the Browns. None of those are going to be easy games, but I think that worst case scenario we could lose two of those, and if we beat the Bungles and the Lions (Jesus, we better beat them…) that still leaves us at 12-4 for the year. I hoping for 13-3, but 12-4 is nothing to sneeze at. One more loss for the Raiders gives them 4 losses for the year. I’d love to lock up the best record in the AFC but I don’t want to jump the gun, there’s still a lot of football to be played.
