What if someone wanted to vote for all except that stinker on page 5, but loses interest and stops voting on page 4? The whole page 5 would be discriminated, because in a one-round poll the absolute number of votes has to be used to compare the scores.
Not voting for an item automatically implies a negative score against it, there’s exactly as much disapproval involved as approval, despite the name. The case of actively deciding against a whole page as opposed to just leaving one out isn’t distinguishable by the numbers.
I re-subbed one of the ‘dubious’ smileys about an hour after this thread was started. I also asked in IMHO for a better abbreviation for it, so far it’s just :dub:.
I made up this barfy smilie and have used it for a couple of years – including once or twice here. I don’t know how to design a “clickable” smilie, so I just add this when it is appropriate:
:-Q~~~
The problem is that it is such a pitiful effort that it makes me want to throw up.:smack:
I did have nine smilies submitted by Friday evening. Almost all of them re-submissions from the first poll. The second smiley poll will start some day this week and (because of the holiday season) be set up to last two weeks.
