I know John Breaux leads it, and Zell Miller of GA is in it, but who are the other two dozen? The newspaper article I read about its meeting didn’t list the members.
It’s not a club with an official membership. It’s just those liberal Republicans and conservative Democrats who don’t necessarily vote slavishly with their own parties. These are mostly Northeastern Republicans and Southern Democrats. I would expect Maine’s Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe and Pennsylvania’s Arlen Specter to be among the Republicans.
John McCain of Arizona just joined last week, so campaign finance reform has just jumped to the top of the coalition’s priority list. McCain’s defection is a serious blow to Lott’s leadership.
Yes – Olympia Snowe is the Republican leader of it. I’d imagine Lincoln Chafee would be a member as well.
