The September of my Rants

It is September 6. One of the local radio stations has started playing Christmas music.

Okay, cool. That freaked the fuck out of me! The worst thing you’d find on my computer would most likely be a political cartoon, or two.

Eminently rant-worthy. That is ridiculous.

I fell asleep last night to the HBO program on 9-11… which is pretty distressing at best.
Over night, I had the Worst nightmares. No obviously dreams never make sense and I was once told that the best way to make sure you never have it (the same dream) again is to talk about it.

For some reason I dreamt that three tall buildings were going to collapse in, of all the most ridiculous places, West Orange? ( Hint there are no tall buildings in that town, nothing above 5 stories anywhere near it.)

It couldn’t be more ridiculous even if Sponge Bob was the culprit…

Same here! Well, I didn’t actually do a spreadsheet. My three daytime doses are kept separate from my nighttime doses.

It is such a joy getting old, and I’m only 62!

I’m 63. Oh, to be 62 again!

Some of my hair got sucked into the back of my hair dryer this morning and I had to cut it to get it out. Fortunately the missing bits are indistinguishable from the rest of the pile of frizzy crap.

I’m 64. Oh, to be - wait, what was the question again?

Thank you folks for making me feel young today (I’m 44 and for the first time ever need to wear glasses, tomorrow is my eye appointment and my perfect vision is finally failing).

You are welcome, three months more for me before Medicare!:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Ah yes, let’s start talking about the increase in food priced shall we ? I’m talking milk, bread, coffee, meat and wine! That on top of increase of gas and electricity for the house…and gas for the car!

I got my Medicare card recently. Lucky I don’t have to carry it, because my retirement plan offers free Medicare Advantage and that insurer (Blue Cross) issued an MA card that I’m supposed to use in place of the Medicare card. But for those having to use the actual Medicare card- what the heck? It’s flimsy paper and sized a little larger that standard credit cards, licenses, etc. It’s like they’re deliberately making them to get damaged in short order. Why doesn’t Medicare issue real plastic cards, maybe even with a chip, like other insurers?

It’s probably because very few people just use original Medicare. Pretty much everyone gets an Advantage, Medigap or Medicaid plan that has its own card. It would be a waste of money to send a fancy card to millions of people who will just put it in a drawer.

Over the weekend, I went to visit with my grandparents (outside their nursing home). My mom usually helps them with the various electronics they have but she couldn’t figure out how to fix his phone this time. She called me over for help. That’s when we discovered why his web browser was messed up. We did NOT clear the browser history, cookies and cache fast enough. OO boy, I did not need to know what kind of adult content my grandfather is into.

We’re currently being bombarded with Fred Meyer ads touting how fresh and wonderful their produce is, complete with cute cartoon characters doing outlandish things to prove it.

Lemme tell ya, folks, our local Fred Meyer branch (a QFC) has the worst produce I’ve seen in a food market since the Alaska stores of my yoot. This stuff is barely edible in many cases, and very poorly stocked. I think FM knows this all too well, and that this ad campaign is an attempt to fool you into thinking differently. All I can say is that the “Q” in QFC stands for Qrap, not Quality.

I used to love the QFC deli though; they’d have a prime rib dinner you can take home and microwave that was really good and pretty cheap. I don’t think I ever bought produce there though.

(I lived within walking distance of a QFC for a while.)

Never seen that sort of spread there. They admittedly have some really good fried chicken, though.

It fell on me to take Pluto the spaniel to the vet for his Bordetella intranasal vax and an ear check.

We waited outside for close to an hour on the clinic’s porch (they were “running behind”, and only one party at a time is allowed in the waiting room).

Not 60 seconds after I had texted Mrs. J. to report Pluto was behaving well, he took advantage of momentary inattention to deposit not one but two heaping mounds of #2, a semi-soft dump that oozed into the interstices of a perforated vinyl welcome mat, and an impressive log collection on the adjacent walkway.

That’s my boy! :poop: :poop:

I’m thinking of going back and revising his registration certificate to add the letters AAAB, for Assigned Asshole At Birth.

I had been having pain in one leg for a few days, and figured I’d pulled a muscle or something. Saturday evening I was getting ready for bed and looked at the leg and it was noticeably swollen and red, so I thought that’s not good and decided to go into the ER. Pro tip - if you’re going to have a health emergency, avoid scheduling it for the middle of the night on a long holiday weekend! 15 hours later, I was home with a diagnosis of Deep Vein Thrombosis with a side order of Cellulitis. I crashed right after supper and slept like a log.

Back Monday(Labour Day) to the Thrombosis Clinic to get the diagnosis confirmed and set up treatment, and left with prescriptions for an antibiotic and blood thinner. My pharmacy was closed for the holiday when I went to fill the prescriptions, so it wasn’t until Tuesday that I had them filled. Took two doses of the antibiotic and broke out in a rash. Great, a third antibiotic I was allergic to, and now I needed to contact the prescribing doctor to get a replacement prescription.

I did a bit of research, however, and found that the antibiotic I had been given in ER as an immediate treatment, was noted as having a greater chance of reactions in patients who already had penicillin sensitivity (me!) and the prescription drug was one I had taken with no problems a year ago. So the rash is starting to fade, I’m still taking the prescription, and I just need to update my list of drug sensitivities. A pretty sucky weekend, all in all, though.
