I was rereading “The Shining” again for the nth time, and I keep running into one part that I can never figure out. When Jack and Wendy are talking to Dr. Edmonds about Danny, Dr. Edmonds says…
“And of course you two must understand why Danny’s invisible friend is named Tony instead of Mike or Hal or Dutch.”
“Yes” Wendy said,
“Have you ever pointed it out to him?”
“No,” Jack said “Should we?”
“Why bother? Let him realize it in his own time, with his own logic…”
OK, so why Tony? I can’t remember a Tony reference anywhere, but I’m sure I must be missing it earlier in the novel… anyone?
oh, and before anyone else can say it…

The general concensus is that Danny’s middle name is Anthony, and thus Tony is a reflection of Danny’s inner self.
Cheers!
sigh… pardon me while I slink into the lurker corner again and pretend that this didn’t happen… my bad.
Thanks for the answer and thanks for exposing my newbie-ness in a nice way!

Don’t lose any sleep over it, we’ve all done it at one time or another.
Not me . Nope. Never ever.
Anonymous Coward, you must now go head in abject shame.
Welcome to the SDMB.
Is that a fact?
I’m tempted to bump that thread to keep the prune from covering up your crime.
