"The Shrimpsons"

In yesterday’s Simpsons episode, they replaced the usual opening credit sequence with a shrimp-themed animation. Bart is writing on the chalkboard inside a wrecked ship instead of inside Springfield Elementary School, etc. Although the show is not nearly as funny as it was back in the day, I thought the Shrimpsons bit was really clever.

I wish they’d put half the effort into the show that they put into the openings.

Delightful! Wonder what brought that on? Was it related to the episode at all?

Bart is riding a skate; that’s pretty clever.

Nope. The episode itself was about how the Pin Pals bowling team re-formed (with Barney, Lenny, and Carl instead of Otto/Mr. Burns, Moe, and Apu. Moe was coach of the new team.)

They’ve been trying all sorts of things with the opening Couch Gag for a while now. Often it’s a different animation style borrowing some other theme. There was also a contest for the best opening idea submitted that that was played recently. The openings rarely have anything to do with the episode.

I just realised that this is the first year that I didn’t go out of my way to watch the tree house of horror. Was it any good? It is the only episode that I have watched in each of the past 5-6 seasons.

As Bart and Lisa might say: Meh.

Each segment didn’t really end, so much a stop. They had their moments, they had some style. But they just weren’t that memorable.
