I’m only 19, have grown up in suburbia, and have never really seen fanatical protests. Sure, I’ve heard about them from people and seen them on TV, but it’s different when you see one up close. I don’t have a problem with protesters, though. By all means, hold up signs that yell your views, just as long as you’re not physically harming other people. But even I thought the sign I’m about to talk about was uncalled for, which is probably what they wanted me to think.
My dad and I were driving home from a small mall and I saw a band of protesters on the sidewalk. I wouldn’t have even noticed them if it weren’t for one sign. They were Pro-Lifers. Most of the signs were white with colorful words that said the standard, “God Hates Abortions” etc. but the one that caught my eye was just sick. It said something about Planned Parenthood (I didn’t read the whole thing because we drove by and I was shocked by the picture) and it had a picture of, bascially, an inside-out baby (not a fetus, but like a six-month old baby with it’s middle cut and it’s guts etc. spilling out).
Little children probably saw that. I mean, I’ve never really been concerned with kids (because I dislike them) but even I saw how sick this was. I hope someone out there agrees with me.
By the way, I’m not sure what the sudden cause of this protest was. I assume it’s because a Planned Parenthood clinic is opening nearby. I wonder if it’ll be on the news.
Those are the Pro-lifers that even the Pro-Lifers wish would calm down and mellow out a little. They are not really helping the cause and definitely cross the lines of good taste and consideration of your audience.
However, I often wonder why, if these people are so against abortion, they spend so much time looking at these gruesome pictures. Most of which, btw, are of stillborns and miscarriages, not actual abortions.
The same reason anti-pornographers look at porn, or rubberneckers slow down to look at a wreck on the freeway. Because they’re secretly tittilated by it, but can’t admit that to themselves. So they cover it up with crappy justifications about how they’re only doing it to educate themselves or show people the horror, or make sure everyone’s all right. If you want to look at such things that’s your right, but don’t force me too!
I love their sense of theater, too. One similar protest was set up here in San Diego–in the middle of a fair in Balboa Park, smack beside the route into the San Diego Zoo, so all the cars full of little kids could get a good view.
I think that’s a lovely illustration of how much these people really care about the lives of children.
