The Siege

I have not seen this movie, and have thought recently about seeing “art imitating life”. Does anyone have a review of it, especially in light of what has happened this week?

I usually watch a movie once, love it or hate it. I’ve seen The Siege at least 5 times. I think its a great film that is at once entertaining and has a significant message for its viewers. The characters are uniformly well acted and the dialog is pretty solid.

Part of the effect of this movie is that this kind of situation is possible (not likely, but possible.)

This is a fantastic movie which everyone should watch at least once.
(That was my review of it at Amazon.com a few months ago.)

I’ll just add that now I think its dangerously possible. You’ll have to watch the movie to understand.

To be perfectly honest, I thought it was boring. There wasn’t enough action for an action movie and it wasn’t serious or smart enough to have a message. It’s really a lame to way to spend 2 hours to figure out that 1. terrorism is bad and can happen anywhere and 2. don’t stereotype Arab-Americans (even though all the characters in this movie are pretty much by-the-numbers stereotypes).

It wasn’t a particularly good movie; the eventual resolutions to the plot are contrived, and Bruce Willis’s character isn’t consistent (a problem with the script, not Willis, who was very good.) It’s pretty dull in the middle parts, too. ElwoodCuse’s rationale for its boringness is right on the money, IMHO.

I didn’t feel the characters were stereotypes. But as for Gen. Devereaux being inconsistent and the resolution contribed: bingo! Couldn’t have said it better.

It was a great idea for a movie, too bad it was executed in such mediocre fashion. But Denzel Washington is always worth the price of admission, even in a not-so-great movie.
