Wow, as much as I really like Jason Statham (for some reason I always want to put an r in his name Stratham) and although I did enjoy playing Dungeon Siege, I just can’t imagine this is going to be any good. OK, I’m still gonna see it. But … Wow.
It has some names in it too. Some of them bigger than others, but very many of them recognizable.
Jason Statham ... Farmer
John Rhys-Davies ... Merick (as John Rhys Davies)
Ray Liotta ... Gallian
Matthew Lillard ... Duke Fallow
Leelee Sobieski ... Muriella
Burt Reynolds ... King Konreid
Ron Perlman ... Norick
I don’t know, I thought the game was absolutely horrid. It seems after Diablo II, all future hack-and-slashers are just poor imitators. If they can muster enough CGI, they might make the movie watchable. Maybe.
Not to sidetrack here, I think this is related, how does Uwe Boll keep getting to do movies? Is he making money on the crap he is churning out? Everything he touches is pure garbage. I fear that the Dungeon Siege movie will be very bad, and I’m fairly certain I will not go see it.
Man, I don’t know how/why I keep doing that. I certainly meant for it to be in Cafe. This is like the third time in the last 6 weeks I have put a Cafe Society post in Great Debates. I will try to do better…
Uwe Boll is my favorite bad director–I’ve gotten a lot of mst3k-style mileage out of his movies. I’m probably going to catch this one in the theaters, if it’s in them long enough for me to do so.
I predict it to be awful in a truly epic way. Ever since we saw the trailer for the first time, my friends and I have been looking forward to it.
Hated the game, by the way. If I had a choice between watching paint dry for several hours and playing Dungeon Siege, the paint would win every time.
Him personally, yes. As I understand it, Arcane German tax loopholes mean his (German) investors get to write a lot of tax off when a movie flops, which is why they keep giving him money. Some of that goes to his salary, so I’m sure he does OK.
They closed that loophole, btw, but he already had several films done or almost done by that point.
The man’s actually a minor genius when it comes to financing and making low-budget independent films. He also has a talent for getting relatively good names by working through holes in their schedules. It’s a shame he has no artistic integrity whatsoever, or he’d work with some writers and directors with actual talent, and help put some really good movies out there.
